- File:Anahareo.jpg (delete | talk | history | logs).
- It says that it was probably taken during a visit to England. If this means that it might first have been published in England, the file might not be free in the United States. Stefan2 (talk) 13:10, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- The photograph was from the private collection of Grey Owl as collated in the Smith fonds. It was therefore not published, so this should be OK. Also, I'm not sure that the UK publication argument holds up anyway. Fawcett5 (talk) 13:24, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- If it is unpublished, then it is not OK. Unpublished photos are only OK if they satisfy the terms specified in {{PD-US-unpublished}}, which this file does not. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:28, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- again you miss the point. It was in the personal collection of Grey Owl, therefore subject to Canadian, not UK rules that would have applied in case of a publication in that country. The original copyright assertion tag stands. Fawcett5 (talk) 14:51, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is hosted in the United States, not in the UK or Canada. Under the copyright law of the United States, unpublished anonymous photos are protected for 120 years since creation, regardless of where the photo comes from and regardless of the copyright status in the source country. --Stefan2 (talk) 14:57, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

- Based on this page, it seems that this banknote series was first published in 1954. For that reason, the image is unfree in USA per {{Not-PD-US-URAA}}. Stefan2 (talk) 13:16, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes the image may be non-free (and was originally uploaded with the non-free tag attached), but use of non-free images is permitted on Wikipedia if fair use can be established. I contend that this image is used for commentary or criticism relating to the image of the currency itself, which is the guideline for fair use of non-free currency images. Please take any disagreement with the fair use rationale to the WP:Non-free content review area. Király-Seth (talk) 21:28, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, I didn't notice that extra copyright tag at the bottom. Non-free copyright tags are supposed to contain a big notice if there is no fair use rationale, and this is probably why I overlooked it. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:31, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

- The file information page contains a long statement about the Department of National Defence but it is unclear whether the image comes from there or whether the statement makes the image free to use. The age of the image is also unknown. Stefan2 (talk) 13:19, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

- The source link now provided credits the photo as a CF Photo (i.e. Canadian Forces). As the aircraft type in question left service in 1944, then this puts the photo into public domain in Canada as "2.it was a photograph created before 1949".Nigel Ish (talk) 10:56, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

- The source is a US newspaper, which furthermore was renewed (see [2]). Canadian copyright templates should only be used for photos which were first published in Canada. Besides, if the copyright was renewed in the United States, then the copyright expires 95 years after publication, regardless of the copyright status in Canada. - File:Burrard Inlet Canoe.jpg (delete | talk | history | logs).
- It says that this is in the public domain in Canada because it was taken more than 50 years before it was uploaded, i.e. before 1958. There are several problems here:
- There is insufficient source information to verify that it was taken before 1958.
- It is not enough that it was taken before 1958. If it is a government photo, it must have been published before 1963, and if it isn't a government photo, then it must have been taken before 1949 (without requirement of publication), otherwise it might be copyrighted in Canada. It isn't know whether it is a government photo or not and it isn't know whether it was published before 1963.
- To determine the copyright status in the United States, replace 1949 and 1963 with 1946 above. Stefan2 (talk) 13:45, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

File:Rockefeller University Aerial View 2010.jpg is marked as "Source = The Rockefeller University" & "Author = Zgori" where Zgori is the uploader's username. Even if the uploader is the author, the source suggests that it is a work for hire, meaning that the uploader isn't the copyright holder. --Stefan2 (talk) 16:43, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
