Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. Please answer these questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
A: Around my areas of work, I often get vandals that ignore my warnings and this happens to me quite frequently. The administrator that works around my areas (User:AnemoneProjectors) has no internet access so is online very rarely. There is a lot of things that I could do that he does not have time for which includes deleting old revisions of non free images and deleting inappropriate revisions on articles. The Coronation Street articles' images are a mess too. There are so many revisions of images that need to go and images are my speciality. I see a lot of users that ignore my warning (as I said above) and I would like to be able to block them if they continue to ignore. I am familiar with the blocking policy and the length of blocks I should issue. I have been close to an edit war but I never revert a single user more than three times on the same article. A lot of users come to me for help such as asking to block a user that's causing them stress and I have to say I am not able to. I would be able to contribute a lot more efficiently and I would prove to be a lot more useful than I am now. I am Wikipedia every day to so I'll nearly always be available. I have also taken part in quite a few deletion debates and I also revert A LOT of vandalism. I have about 1500 pages on my watchlist.
2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
A: My best contributions have to bed the reduction of non free images to smaller size and adding appropriate rationale to them. A lot of images don't have rationales so I have been praised on this! Another thing is citing sources. Wikipedia has to be reliable right? So citing your sources is number one for me. Whenever I see a citation needed, I always scout around for a citation for verification. I am aware of the process that if a source is not provided then the unsourced material may be challenged or removed. My best contributions go towards EastEnders articles and related. I am part of various wikiprojects, including EastEnders and I feel that I am of help there.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: I can't recall any major problems here at Wikipedia. I have had a few ignorant users who I have politely asked to stop but didn't so took it to WP:AIV but nothing more than that. I am always friendly to other users but I will be straight to the point if any users are abusive to me. I may have gotten stressed about users that do not asssume good faith. I just leave my computer get some air and try to sort things out later.

4. I noticed that an image you just uploaded a new version of yesterday - File:Ian Beale Shooting.jpg - is currently being considered for deletion. Do you agree or disagree with the deletion request? Why or why not? --B (talk) 17:03, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A: Well I only crop untidy images and fix them (that one had a black line on it) and I didn't think it would last as it doesn't really help the readers understanding.
5. From looking at your image uploads, you have uploaded a lot of screenshots under claims of fair use. Please discuss what WP:NFCC#8 means to you and how you apply it to some of the images you have uploaded. --B (talk) 17:03, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A: Fair use images should only be included if it actually does help the readers understanding. If it doesn't then what's the point? When I upload my images I make sure they are of low resolution and if I see one in violation I'll reduce it to a smaller size. If a fair use image was say 1000 pixels smallest dimension then it would surely put wikipedia at risk of copyright infringement.
6. As you most likely know, administrators are not permitted to block users with whom they are "involved". What does "involved" mean to you? Consider this scenario: You block a user for 3RR. He immediately contests the block on the grounds that you are an "involved" editor, pointing to a debate from some time ago in which the two of you held opposite views. (You had forgotten about the debate and did not make the connection until he pointed it out.) What would you do? --B (talk) 17:03, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A: If a user vandalises a page then yes I would refer and say no, you were blocked for the well-being of wikipedia. If the user was involved but assuming good faith, it's better to leave the user some tips than to just scare him off. I'd always be polite.

  1. I'm not an admin (though it would be cool, if I were one) but i'm a fellow friend and member of WP:EE of GSorby. I know him quite well. He puts a shame on all of us at EastEnders. Literally. He clicks his fingers and an image (of the highest quality) pops up and everyone goes 'wow'. He is very friendly, but does have moments on the edge, but apoligises straight away, and you forget them seconds later. He has done amazing edits to Ann Mitchell and Yusef Khan, which will easily pass GA. He is very easy to talk to, just the other day we were talking and it ended up in a whole conversation (and I had only asked if he could restore a image). I think he is an invaluable essence of Wikipedia, and will easily make it a better place. MayhemMario 17:06, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, you say that your work with non-free images is your best contribution to Wikipedia, but your talk page is covered with warnings related to them.   6. Oppose - I'm not opposing for simple WP:NOTNOW reasons, I have some specific concerns with your candidacy. As suggested by ArcAngel above, your participation in the "Wikipedia:" areas is limited, which is something that always stays my hand. I'm particularly troubled by your lack of experience dealing with conflicts, especially since one of the main reasons why you're requesting the tools is to be able to block people, I see no evidence that you have the proper judgement when it comes to judging the actions of other editors (and in particular, I'm troubled by the statement, "I have had a few ignorant users who I have politely asked to stop but didn't so took it to WP:AIV but nothing more than that"). On the other hand, just in a general sense you seem to be doing well in improving Wikipedia's articles and files, and I encourage you to continue with that good work.
