Suspected sockpuppets

[edit]

These users worried me, there might be a possible puppetmaster-sockpuppet relation, in order to assist each other, I think. There are couple things that caused these suspicions. They are the only two Armenian users to edit 2020 Armenian–Azerbaijani skirmishes, while user GevHev4 was created on July 14, and GevHev4 edited 2020 Armenian–Azerbaijani skirmishes few hours after creating the account, and he is only active on that page. So, could a Checkuser please check for a possible sock? --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 15:44, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like User:Գարիկ Ավագյան are still active as Flowingmind – effectively evading the block and the reason why they haven't filed any unblock request. Evidence is basically their attempts (keep votes) to save their pages at AfDs such as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Arash Avin and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Find My Kids. Both accounts should in a check, but I suspect they have more such throw-away accounts. 2001:8F8:1343:C225:4C16:7B9D:B842:EC8C (talk) 23:32, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • These accounts are editing from IPs that geolocate to the same city, but they are editing on different ranges. The amount of overlap between the two is indeed suspicious - in addition to the two AfD discussions listed in the report is Draft:Croquet Corporation that both have worked on. I can't buy this as a coincidence for a brand new account - blocking as suspected. Girth Summit (blether) 15:42, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This UPE is still editing through IPs (log-out edits) or similarly named sock accounts such as Handfield De (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) and Handfield Will (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki). It is obvious but checkuser should help discover other accounts. User:Handfield De was created in June 2022 after their sock was blocked in May 2022 (User:Flowingmind) and then another account was created in July 2022 (User:Handfield Will), not sure if there are more such accounts. Most of their edits like the master are related to Soviet topics or Turkey-Armenia conflict (or such localities) or biased edits on Turkish politicians. Handfield Will has edited Alison (company) that has a history UPE editing. Handfield_De's first edit was on Political status of Nagorno-Karabakh like the master who was interested in such topics [1] and then they edited Croquet Project, an obscure topic.

Layla Kaylif was edited from an IP address. Is it possible to lock their IP range? 94.205.110.72 (talk) 04:25, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

CheckUser requested I have spent a long time looking into this, and, with all due respect to the filer, I don't find it "obvious" at all. There are enough similarities among the accounts to raise very significant suspicions, but not quite enough to be sure. AmandaNP's comments could scarcely be more frustrating: if she had said just "I found something to support the position that they are related" then that would certainly be enough to push me into blocking, but instead she said "it's likely" that she found something. How likely is "likely"? If you were to insist that I make a decision based on currently available evidence, I would go for saying that these are sockpuppets, but I would prefer to be more certain before blocking. Since Amanda tells us that her decision not to do another CU was premised on the filer's statement that it was "obvious", and since I don't see it as obvious, I am reinstating the CU request, in the hope that either Amanda or another CU will gallop in to the rescue. (Incidentally, as a side effect of my investigation, I saw the editing history of GevHev4, who Amanda had previously declined to CU as an alleged sockpuppet of Գարիկ Ավագյան for lack of sufficient evidence presented by the filer. It's of rather academic interest now, as the account last edited in October 2020, but for what it's worth I think there is very persuasive evidence that that account is not a Գարիկ Ավագյան sockpuppet, rather than just that there isn't enough evidence that it is one.)
