Codyfinke

Suspected sockpuppets
[edit]

Evidence submitted by Jerem43
[edit]

Codyfinke is a longtime sock master who has a certain set of editing behaviors. The most obvious one is he likes to include "Cody" in his user name. Beyond that he gravitates to television and movie articles then branch out to restaurant and foodservice related articles. All of his recent articles and contributions since registering follow that pattern and the structure of those edits conform with his editing habits.

Inserted same fictional game at New Jersey Lottery previously inserted by confirmed sock CodyBenjaminMoore (talk · contribs). Plus it fits the sockmaster's pattern of using "Cody" in usernames. oknazevad (talk) 05:02, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is a definite sock of codyfinke (talk · contribs), to begin with, there is the edits at Supermarket Sweep (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) which is his favorite article to edit. Add in the most recent edits at various fast food chains, media outlets and television showws and you can see his pattern of edits coming around. Also include the creation of articles that fail GNG and are often duplicates of existing articles. (New Video Group).

He has edited this article repeatedly under his various aliases. Here are some more of the articles he has been at:

Most of these represent his fascination with television and media. The final giveaway is his name structure, CodyXxxx, where he uses his name with some other subject he likes.

Just filing this on behalf of this AIV report to make sure it doesn't get forgotten about. I will notify Jerem43 immediately after filing this so he can provide evidence. Ks0stm (TCGE) 05:33, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • comment by Jerem43 (talk · contribs) - Cody is famous for a pattern of editing, specifically game shows, media companies and fast food products. He also has a pattern of never responding to posts on hi talk page or the articles he edits talk pages. However, it is his most obvious habit that gives himself away is that he always uses Cody Finke in his name. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 06:02, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Obvious username match to Codyfinke. No need to elaborate, and edit history resembles Cody's in full. Nate (chatter) 02:07, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've dealt with Cody on numerous occasions, and know his particular behaviors rather well. This user "feels" like Cody in the pattern of edits he makes, his behaviors on talk pages (including his own) and the subjects he is editing. There are so many edits, it is hard to sing out single diffs. It is the very pattern of edits on retail shopping establishments, media companies and finally restaurants that leads me to think this is him again. This is the exact same pattern of behaviors that Cody engages in. The Main missing element is him incorporating his name in the user, however he has done this on a few occasions. I don't know about sockpuppeting but I just reverted and edit of thirs to CMT (Canada) ‎ and had a look at a ew other of their recent ones and reverted CPAC (TV channel) ‎ and Univision tlnovelas and stopped looking further back. These were all cases where they said another slogan was now in use of a logo was now out of use. Especially the last case it is a bit much to say a TV channel no longer uses a logo when their home page quite obviously does uses it. So even if they aren't a sock there's something definitely wrong with them. Dmcq (talk) 11:27, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note: We really need diffs here. If there so many edits, it would take an impossible amount of time to go through and make the connection since we aren't familiar with the editor as much as you say you are, and we depend on your giving us more direction than this in order to investigate. Without more info, I can't investigate. Dennis Brown |  | © | WER 13:47, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Clerk note: Closing. A "gut feeling" and similar topics aren't sufficient evidence. I took a short look through the contributions and was unable to find any substantial evidence. Reaper Eternal (talk) 12:46, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No need to elaborate; the same usual targets and minutia, same naming pattern (though now they seem to enjoy maritime-themed patterns), same odd redirects never typed in by anyone. Nate (chatter) 08:35, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Once again recreating inane food and media redirects that won't see any use or are misdirected completely. Username match easily...if there was any way to block any "Cody'SillyName'" on sight I'd support it, but banning all Cody's I know would be impossible. Made the same edits to Multichannel television sound and Friends (magazine) as Cody's last few accounts, and thinks readers are somehow confused by Vince Lombardi and Vince Guaraldi, which sound nothing alike besides the first name. Nate (chatter) 22:30, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Right back to implausible edits and redirects right off their last 1w block. The block of this IP resulted in complete peace from Codyfinke for a week, so I suggest a longer term one this time to see if that holds and we have them in check for now. Nate (chatter) 03:50, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yet another sock with the same television and brand edits as Cody has had, especially the strong Barney and HIT Entertainment-related edits. As I said before the IP block seemed to have Cody reined in, so again I ask for a block of this and a block of the IP. Nate (chatter) 02:58, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jpgordon, you ran CU on that one IP before, but I also looked at the range. I'm not familiar with this particular sock, and I'm here because Jpgordon's note, and then I saw a note by Luk, who checked the range as well--a decade ago--and said "probably banned User:Codyfinke". We have a similarity with names here, hence my reopening this SPI. I don't know what kind of ISP this is; there's one other user on the range (recent account, no edits yet except to a sandbox) with the same machinery but a very different name. I cannot confirm that the two Cody accounts are matches to the "original" (again, I don't know this cat, and I haven't checked the CU wiki); they're already blocked anyway. I think it's interesting that this person has not yet found a new hobby. Drmies (talk) 00:08, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting, yeah. I don't see anything to take further action on. Am I missing something? --jpgordon𝄢𝄆 𝄐𝄇 00:28, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

CodyFinke2020 is the next in the line of numbered CodyFinke socks. Same edit summaries and talk page 'justification's for their personal crusade against mentioning songs in commercials. Compare 216.6.131.152's edit summaries ([2]) and talk pages comments ([3]), to those of blocked socks such as CodyFinke2019 ([4] [5]). The new registered account essentially admits it on their talk page when called out on their disruptive editing. Xanzzibar (talk) 08:51, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note: I looked at a few of their edits, and yeah, I'm sure this is the same person as recently blocked sock CodyFinke2021, so clearly block evasion. On the other hand, we've been chasing this guy for over 12 years. He didn't edit for something like 6 years than apparently decided to come back last August. Looking at the edits to Sussex County, New Jersey, and to other articles by some of the more recent socks; they all look like reasonable edits that improved the encyclopedia. At what point does being defender of the encyclopedia morph into being Javert? I'll leave this open for somebody else to handle; this just feels excessively grinchy for Christmas day. -- RoySmith (talk) 22:26, 25 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Remarkably static IP. I do feel a bit like Javert here, but considering that the master is banned for repeated evasion...I don't think I can just let it slide. Blocked for a month. GeneralNotability (talk) 02:09, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
