Cossde

19 July 2011
[edit]
Suspected sockpuppets

  • Cossde had been involved in edit wars on War crime and War rape articles. He was reported to WP:ANEW by User:Adamrce on 15 July. On 16 July Cossde responed by stating that he would "refrain from editing War crime". Within half-an-hour Gira2be had edited the war crime article. Gira2be had not made any previous edits on this article and had not made any edits on Wikipedia in 2011 prior to getting involved in the edit war on war rape on 9 July.
  • The edits by Cossde and Gira2be are very similar:
War crime:
Cossde v Gira2be
War rape:
Cossde v Gira2be
  • The timings of edits of the two users are very close but there is no overlap, e.g.:
18 July 2011 - Gira2be was editing at 14.05, then Cossde was editing between 14.11 and 14.23.
17 July 2011 - Cossde was editing between 17.26 and 17.51, then Gira2be was editing between 18.37 and 18.53.
16 July 2011 - Cossde was editing between 18.12 and 18.37, then Gira2be was editing between 18.42 and 19.09.
9 July 2011 - Cossde was editing between 7.51 and 9.52, then Gira2be was editing between 10.00 and 10.50; then Cossde was editing between 11.06 and 13.10.
30 December 2010 - Cossde was editing at 14.17, then Gira2be was editing between 14.31 and 14.38.
17 September 2010 - Cossde was editing between 16.57 and 17.29, then Gira2be was editing between 17.31 and 17.59.
8 August 2010 - Cossde was editing between 5.43 and 5.55, then Gira2be was editing at 6.35.
  • On 16 July Gira2be placed tags on a number of articles ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8]). I reverted these edits as I considered them malicious. Within a couple of hours Cossde had reverted my reverts.
  • Cossde and Gira2be edit similar articles (Sri Lankan military units, schools).
  • And finally, SPI in February 2009 found that Cossde and Gira2be were related but no action was taken against them.

Cossde and Gira2be are the same individual but Cossde continues to act as if they were different even after I have challenged them on the issue. obi2canibetalk contr 19:06, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks guys for the CheckUser results... What's really irritating is trying to game the system, thinking he can fool noticeboards.
I was voluntarily mediating between two editors, trying to cool-down their edit warring in multiple articles. When he was denying that he didn't do anything wrong, I opened a case on the 3RR noticeboard. He replied to the commenting admin that he told me he's not editing that article again in this edit. However, he made the exact same edit with Gira2be afterwards here. ~ AdvertAdam talk 09:50, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In Sri Lanka page Astronomyinertia removed the Civil war section and then he added some civil war related stuff in Post independence Sri Lanka section. He did it without discussing the issue in discussion page and it's to be noted that civil war section at that instance which existed was created in mediation sandbox created by AdvertAdamto mediate issues between me andCossde.Later the Civil war section was added to Sri Lanka page .The issue was that Cossde opposed the inclusion of Alleged war crimes section. So AdvertAdam had to create a mediation sandbox in which the civil war section and alleged warcimes stuff were merged into a single section named Civil war and added to the article.

Then I saw Astronomyinertia in that article for the first time. Then he kept reverting my edits to push his view of not having a civil war section.SO I use to revert back his edits. You can notice that Cossde has reverted 5 times to have a particular content and Astronomyinertia also edited/reverted 1 time to have the same content.I also wish to mention that LostBeetles reverted the page many times to have a content that I preferred. He was accused of being by Sockpuppet and that account

In http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sri_Lanka#Recent_Civil_War_summary, You can notice that Astronomyinertia and Cossde are arguing for the same point of not having a separate Civil War section in Sri Lanka article

In LTTE page Cossde reverted my edit at 14:08, 23 September 2011 [reverted]my edit. Then [[User:Cossde|Cossde]'s was reverted by Vankalaian who is accused to be my sockpuppet and banned. Then Astronomyinertia] [reverted] the edit of Vankalaian .VankalaianHe was accused of being by Sockpuppet and that account

The similarity in behaviour of the 2 users make be suspect that either of them is sockpuppet. I don't know to use many features of wiki properly. So I am sorry I am messing up with your templates(Arun1paladin (talk) 12:48, 27 September 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Here is an incident where myself and Cossde were involved in a dispute about content of an article a long time ago. Astronomyinertia (talk) 17:01, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree these two users are one. Although earlier user Cossde was suspected of meat puppetry late last week. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 17:41, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Blacknight ,this is not likely to be my reaction to Astronomyinertia to case on me but it's surely a reaction. The two accounts really vary in some things but the opinion that they have in common is that there should not be a civil war section in that article :)(Arun1paladin (talk) 04:08, 28 September 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Making accusations blatantly like that when one user is in India and the other in Canada, makes be believe you are a sockpuppet. You were of course proved of meat-puppetry. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 14:47, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting edits like the user in question has. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 18:42, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cossde has been involved in a number of edit wars recently (which are subject to a separate ANI) and is suspected of deliberately logging out to avoid falling foul of the WP:3RR rule. Cossde is a very experienced editor and it is unlikely that they unknowingly edited whilst logged out. 112.135.95.121 and 112.135.74.192 had made no edits on Wikipedia before getting involved in these edit wars. It is unlikely that the first action of a genuine new editor would be to get involved in a dispute.--obi2canibetalk contr 20:48, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly this has turned in to a witch hunt ! with any editing unacceptable by Intoronto1125 and obi2canibe slammed on me for Sockpuppeting. Cossde (talk) 13:37, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cossde was involved in disputes with myslef and another user on number of articles yesterday. After reverting twice, they logged out and used an anonymous IP account to continue the edit war.

The timings of edits of the two accounts are very close but there is no overlap:

  • 7 April 2012: Cossde was editing between 18.45 and 19.49, then 112.135.84.193 was editing between 19.49 and 19.51

112.135.84.193 had made no edits on Wikipedia prior to getting involved in this edit war.

This clearly an attempt by Cossde to circumvent the three-revert rule. obi2canibetalk contr 14:55, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am getting sick of these accusations, based on this logic the user Intoronto1125 joined in reverting on obi2canibe behalf as he/she was coming close to the three-revert rule. Cossde (talk)

Cossde, it's as clear as day at this point that you are intentionally logging out to engage in reversion harassment again Intoronto1125 (especially given your confrontational history with him). I would have AGF'd the last time that you were doing this while logged out, but there is no excuse this time. --MuZemike 20:24, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
MuZemike, it wasn't me as I was editing at the time stated [9] based on advice given by Obi2canibe.Cossde (talk) 17:09, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There are sixty seconds in a minute. How many seconds does it take to click on Log out and then undo? Here's a clue: in the sixty seconds that made up 14:29, 20 December 2011 you managed to make eight edits. Must be some kind of record. Here's another clue: at 17:48, 9 April 2012 you managed to make three edits in five seconds. Your continued denial shows that you hold the entire Wikipedia community in utter contempt.--obi2canibetalk contr 20:01, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If the Wikipedia community were to check the logs in my log in and log out times it would clearly disprove this new theory of yous. Cossde (talk) 18:34, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oz346 (talk) 10:21, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cossde was recently subject to a topic ban from Sri Lanka related topics for disruptive editing [10]. For the last couple of months, he has been regularly questioning the same particular sources for use on Sri Lanka articles, under the pretext of them being 'primary sources' [11] [12] even after they have been vetted by an admin on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Sri_Lanka_Reconciliation/Sources#List_of_sources. A new user Kalanishashika just days after the banning, has become active on the Tamil genocide page where Cossde was previously active, and has continued to question the very same sources in a similar fashion [13] [14]. Both accounts seem preoccupied with giving in line explicit attribution to several sources on the same article, see [15] and [16], which is something that Cossde has regularly done throughout his editing history in several similar article disputes [17]. The new user also seems aware of obscure wikipedia rules such as Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, which is not in keeping with a normal novice account [18], and this is a policy that Cossde has recently cited in article disputes [19]

The above makes me suspicious that this may be a possible attempt to circumvent the topic ban, and a check user check is requested please. Thanks. Oz346 (talk) 10:50, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've taken a look, and while I can't rule out a possible connection, the evidence isn't strong enough for me to take action on at this time. I also note that Kalanishashika was active at Tamil genocide five days prior to the imposition of the topic ban on Cossde. Closing without action. Suspected sockpuppets

[edit]

As someone who has dealt with both these users, I endorse Oz346's statement above but I think this is a case of meatpuppet (or off-Wiki coordination) than sockpuppet. The behavioural patterns are glaringly similar. A notable peculiar behaviour that Cossde and Kalanishashika have in common is insisting on giving in-text attribution to cited sources with excess biographic details [1][2] for which they have been repeatedly called out. Deleting content from the same reliable source, UTHR, claiming it as "primary source" is another common trait.[1][2]

Despite being a relatively new user who claims to have had no prior Wiki editing experience[1], Kalanishashika has shown knowledge of an experienced user by for example citing BLP guidelines in their very first edit [1] and the use of RSN [1] to challenge our sources as Cossde was fond of doing. Both have requested third parties to establish a list of acceptable sources on Sri Lanka related topics.[1][2]. Another thing to note is that Kalanishashika appears to be a SPA who primarily challenges edits made to Tamil genocide by me and Oz346. Kalanishashika had been inactive for the past 2 months but was suddenly reactivated as soon as Oz346 made an edit to the article. As the interaction history shows, Cossde too would challenge Oz346's edits on Sri Lanka topics soon afterward. These peculiar obsessions on the same topic do not seem to be simple coincidences to me.--- Petextrodon (talk) 12:14, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm going to close this investigation given the now-removal from the worst of the area of conflict. I'm actually pretty in favor of the idea of this being a case of some sort of coordination, and actually a bit warmer to "it's a sock" than the previous filing after looking myself, but this has been hanging out here for nearly 2 months and no-one else has jumped at the idea, and I'm not certain enough about it either way. And the data probably should have been clearer then anyway. Izno (talk) 22:15, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cossde is a long established account but in May it was indefinitely banned from Sri Lanka topics by Arbitration Committee. The account has been inactive since July. The JVPAppuhamy account was created on 6 October 2024. Since then the account has been editing Sri Lankan articles but their contributions are more like that of an experienced editor rather than a new account. And there are many similarities in JVPAppuhamy's edits to that of Cossde.

1) JVPAppuhamy has been editing articles that Cossde has created or edited extensively:

a) Rājākariya - article created by Cossde.
b) List of Sri Lankan generals and brigadiers - article created by Cossde.
c) Security Forces Headquarters – East - article created by Gira2be, a confirmed sockpuppet of Cossde.
d) No. 9 Squadron SLAF - article created by Gira2be, a confirmed sockpuppet of Cossde.
e) Sri Lankan intelligence agencies - article created by Cossde.
f) Palaly Cantonment - article created by Gira2be, a confirmed sockpuppet of Cossde.
g) Presidential Adviser - article created by Cossde.
h) Senior Adviser to the President of Sri Lanka - article created by Cossde.
i) Defence Services Command and Staff College - article edited extensively by Cossde.
j) Awards and decorations of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces - article edited extensively by Cossde.
k) Tyron Silvapulle - article edited extensively by Cossde.
l) Shantha Kottegoda - article edited extensively by Cossde.
m) Parama Weera Vibhushanaya - article edited extensively by Cossde.
n) Weerodara Vibhushanaya - article edited extensively by Cossde.
o) Second Battle of Elephant Pass - article edited extensively by Cossde.
JVPAppuhamy has edited 52 articles and of that 24 have previously been edited by Cossde or their sockpuppet.

2) Both accounts have a habit of only providing inline citations at the end of paragraphs.

Cossde: L. H. Mettananda, Louis Corneille Wijesinghe, Hugh Fred Rupasinghe, Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum.
JVPAppuhamy: Sampath Thuyacontha, Aruna Jayasekara, Workers' Councils and Advisory Committees in Sri Lanka

3) Both accounts have a habit of providing the access date of sources but not the actual date of the source:

Cossde: Charles Wijewardhana, 2002 Islamabad Protestant International Church bombing, L. H. Mettananda, Jinadasa Weerasinghe
JVPAppuhamy: Ravi Seneviratne, Sampath Thuyacontha, Nihal Abeysinghe, Aruna Jayasekara

4) JVPAppuhamy has been involved in a heated discussion with an experienced editor and their tone and conduct in that discussion is not that of a new editor. Their responses are also reminiscent of Cossde's responses in talk discussions e.g. bombarding the discussion with shortcuts to policies/guidelines e.g. JVPAppuhamy v Cossde

5) The username JVPAppuhamy is an allusion to coded message broadcast on radio by the JVP in 1971 insurrection. Reference to the message was first added to the 1971 insurrection article by Cossde.

6) Both accounts are mispronouncing a common English term as "cheery pick":

Cossde: you have cheery picked the content
JVPAppuhamy: Your cheery picked terms such as.... Obi2canibe (talk) 22:10, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
