Suspected sockpuppets

[edit]

Pro12h was created in September 2021 and ceased editing in March 2022, after several warnings for unattributed copying of public domain text. They ceased editing on 19 March 2022. Hary1mo was already created in July 2021, but only started editing on 14 March 2022, with articles extremely similar to the ones by Pro12h, and soon with the same type of warnings abut attribution on their user talk page. Ampd0d was created on 19 March 2022, immediately started making the same type of articles. The accounts have received questions about their relation on their talk pages, but haven't replied. The Editor interaction[1] shows a lot of overlap for new editors with relatively few edits.

Whether there is any link to User:DeltaSquad833 is less clear, they also socked, focused on navy ships, and had many issues with attribution and so on, so there certainly are some similarities. Fram (talk) 16:05, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

and one other that I didn't list here because they haven't edited enwiki. Many of these accounts are blocked for socking on eswiki as well as Commons. It is pretty obvious that all of these accounts are the same person based on the prolific crosswiki editing (en/es/commons) and the creation of similar poorly sourced articles on US Navy ships (particularly considering that they don't seem to be in the US). I'll move this case to the oldest account, and Pink clock Awaiting administrative action - please indef all accounts listed here. I don't normally request to block stale accounts, but considering the history of copyright issues (see [2][3][4] etc.) I think it is best that these are blocked to prevent reactivation. New account that immediately started creating a bunch of articles entirely copied from the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships [5][6], sometimes without attribution [7][8], similar to behavior of previous socks as described in the last report. Pretty clear behavioral match. Same obscure drafts - Draft:CSS Mohawk (currently working on a CCI for the sock farm, and it's a pretty obvious m.o. - copy-paste from DANFS to create poor drafts) including editing the same obscure drafts as the others. I'm one of only two or three editors currently active in the ACW naval sphere, so the socks are pretty obvious. The editing on eswiki as well in this obscure subject matter area also stands out. Most damning is the same behavioral pattern on commons - same uploads of copyrighted models like File:CSS Tuscarora.jpg as to say this commons deletion request, including editing one of the same obscure images from another one of the socks. Requesting a checkuser as I think there's a high chance of sleepers, especially with the fairly obvious sock active on Commons but not enwiki. Hog Farm Talk 01:25, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Same obscure draft editing such as Draft:CSS Kanawha Valley, the behavioral matches on Commons and es.wiki are the damning evidence - this sock farm is the only I've editor encountered with this narrow set of characteristics. Edits are benign so far, but given that many of the socks are globally locked and they've created a copyright mess on Commons (see Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Hary1mo), it's probably best to nip this in the bud. I hate to be the person to keep dragging them to SPI, but several of the past socks have created obnoxious messes. Hog Farm Talk 15:32, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This user's userpage makes claims of not being a sockpuppet of Hary1mo, being a sockpuppet in general, and hating sockpuppets, all of which are quite suspicious. Mori Calliope fan talk 00:49, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's clearly them. They just created draft Draft:CSS Mohawk which was recently also created by one of the socks. – NJD-DE (talk) 01:01, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
