Something very odd is going on here. A bunch of users with very similar viewpoints have been editing at a range of Australian articles. I'm actually prepared to extend good faith to Watchover (i.e. I think the result could be that he is OK but the others are mutual socks of an unknown sockmaster).

KAPITALIST88 (who should have been usernameblocked anyway - 88 is a Nazi reference) was blocked this morning over an image they had uploaded with false copyright to Tony Abbott (Australian opposition/Liberal Party leader). Within 17 minutes of KAPITALIST88 discovering he was blocked, Cantwejustbefriends, an account with only 3 previous edits (one of which was a major edit to Joe Hockey, Abbott's leadership challenger), roared into life. The history at List of Prime Ministers of Australia (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) over the past couple of hours, together with Cantwejustbefriends's user and talk pages which talk about "factionalism" and "pack mentality" in their first and second diffs, suggest to me that there is sockpuppetry going on. The issue over which one is backing up the other is a somewhat unrelated pet issue of Watchover's in adding tables to list articles (see e.g. [1] from October).

Kristina Keneally (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (from earlier in December) is also of interest.

Watchover's and Kapitalist's edits are almost mutually exclusive to a scary degree - one edits for a few days, then stops, and the other one edits in the interval. Orderinchaos 05:56, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Since the Watchover SPI, it has been brought to my attention that another editor, Stravin, has participated in many of the same debates and edit wars as Watchover (eg List of leaders of the Liberal Party of Australia (New South Wales Division)), edits from the same POV and, as with the last case, one user tends to be active when the other is not (although there are isolated cases - eg 21 Dec at around 11:50 UTC when edits neatly interleave). There is also wikistalk output. If looking at all three editors highlighted in the last SPI, all three have edited at Electoral district of Ku-ring-gai, a rather obscure article, while there is an overlap over NSW politics generally. Both Stravin and Watchover have a random habit of editing while logged out; this can be seen amply in the history of Davidson High School (New South Wales), a particular editing interest for the Stravin account. Kapitalist and Stravin overlap in an interest in the Warringah Council area of northern Sydney, while Watchover's lays further north in the Hunter Region.

I have listed this under Stravin as, if this one is correct, then Stravin, not Watchover, is the sockmaster (or at least fulcrum, if there is more than one person involved) for all of the accounts, as they have 1600 edits and an 18-month history, while Watchover has 700-odd, Kapitalist has 300-odd and Cantwejustbefriends has 5. (This is not counting around 200-300 IP edits I believe originate from this.)

Watchover is presently blocked following the last SPI; Kapitalist is indef-blocked for another reason. Orderinchaos 20:05, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The first two are obvious socks, but am not sure whether to put them under Stravin or KAPITALIST88 (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log) · investigate · cuwiki). (After this CU I'll have a better idea and won't need to keep coming back to SPI for the obvious ones :)

The third one is not as obvious - has been editing since 2008, only has 150 or so edits, and is basically an SPA. The account was created in February this year, on the same day the editor made six edits in five articles before becoming dormant until the 3rd of March. The editor has the same interests as the the meat and sock puppets.

Watchover and Cactus1974 have the very same camera but also are located within the same area (The photo of HMAS Newcastle was taken in Newcastle and the other photos where on the Central Coast).

The editor has also been vague on what the meeting was, I've searched for community meetings on the Central Coast and The Entrance on the 3rd of March but I've found nothing, the user also rather defensive and knows Wikipedia too well to be a newbie editor.

I'm also requesting a CheckUser, as just seems odd that they have the same interests, Stravin is known to sock (which infact shocked us all a few months ago). Bidgee (talk) 11:32, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well one picture is better than another, its not my fault an editor is emotionally attached to a picture that they have taken, even though the pictures they are opposed to are far better suited for the article. Just shows how far an unnamed person will go in spite against another just to big name themselves to a bias "community".

I should also mention that this morning I was contacted through email by fairfax media regarding left wing bias, ownership of articles, political gangs in Wikipedia [I am not threatining anyone] just thought I should let you know that people [journo's who will go to great lengths to find your identity] I gave my phone number and they informed me that Orderinchaos's real name was Andrew, how the hell did they find that out? Sorry I own the same camera as another user, I have been proven guilty for buying a popular camera. As with just about everything else concerning this individual, there are easy ways to disprove the Fairfax Media link ... like, for instance, a better Google search. I'll actually be disappointed if it is the case as I had believed this to be a good faith new user who I was assisting with questions about formatting and other stuff (although I must admit something did seem strange early on). In the last 3 or 4 days, though, I've seen editing patterns and interests which do look rather like the previous user, and I'm certainly curious to see how the results turn out.  Clerk endorsed seems to match the MO of Stravin and Co. fairly closely, in particular in undoing edits by other users without discussion and taking part in cleanup style editing, especially of infoboxes. Is acting in an identical manner to previous incarnations, their userpage looks practically identical to an earlier diff of the last known sock's username, and they're intensely interested in New South Wales politics with a Liberal Party POV. Note that there may be additional accounts - during the period immediately before Stravin's block in January, they appeared to be operating three accounts at the same time. I'm presently minded to regard both Highvale and Siegfried Nugent as suspect - the latter particularly, due to very similar editing interests (in particular, NSW politics, northern Sydney and titles).
