02:33:23, 4 November 2014 review of submission by S. E. Stokowski

[edit]

I'm at a loss!

This draft article: [1] was rejected for containing "copyrighted material" even though all quotes are properly referenced. (I tried deleting the quotes but they were "restored" by somebody, again without explanation.

Can anybody PLEASE tell me exactly what is wrong and how I can correct it and, finally, how I can re-submit it?

Thanks!S. E. Stokowski (talk) 02:33, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

S. E. Stokowski (talk) 02:33, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The draft you link to is currently submitted for review, so will be reviewed when someone gets round to it. That could be several weeks or more.
I note that, as I write this, the entirety of the section "Artistic merit" consists solely of two lengthy quotes taken from presumably copyrighted works. This is the kind of thing that Cullen gave you advice about on your talk page. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 07:45, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Questions: 1. The article was listed as "rejected" and that sounds kind-of final. If not, what is the procedure (if any) for re-submission? 2. I tried making corrections but they were unceremoniously "restored" --so how am I to make corrections? 2. I cannot get into the chat section because it asks for a "nickname" and I have no idea what my nickname may be. Thank you very much for your time and trouble. S. E. Stokowski (talk) 13:37, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello S. E. Stokowski, sorry the process can be frustrating at first, and you've hit a few tangles. I've gone ahead and published the article since Horsch meets the basic requirements, so I'd rather get your draft published so you and others can begin working on fine-tuning it, rather than delay a fundamentally valid article on technical grounds.
  • Being "declined" is purely a "it's not ready yet", not at all permanent. To resubmit, just click "Resubmit" in the pink Decline box, after making the advised changes.
  • I'm not sure why changes were restored; it may be the case that someone saw a huge block of text removed without explanation, and kneejerk assumed vandalism. To avoid this, make sure you use the "Edit Summary" box which appears just below your editing box, to briefly say what you're changing, like "trimmed down quote".
  • Can you clarify what you mean by "chat section"? Like the realtime chat function? Let us know the exact name or link of what you mean by "chat".
As a larger observation about your draft, I do believe Horsch should meet WP:Notability as he appears to have some recognition in books and news articles as an artist. I would recommend though that you put the variants of his name in the beginning, so that reviewers understand that "Ray Horsch" is the same person, as he gets a number of GoogleBooks hits in books by others under that name, etc. I have a number of other observations about the draft, and will indicate some needed improvements at the top of the now-published article. I am writing to make an inquiry about the following article in Draft mode:

https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Draft:The_Perfect_Moment_Exhibition&redirect=no

I facilitated a workshop and the professor had the students create sections for this particular entry. They worked hard on pulling sources, citations, and creating a neutral article to supplement Robert Mapplethorpe's Wikipedia page since there is no independent page for the exhibition The Perfect Moment. Is there any way to expedite the review process so the article is published as soon as possible? Dorothysantos (talk) 05:19, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dorothysantos (talk) 05:19, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dorothy. Are you sure this is ready for submission? It has no wikilinks at all, see Wikipedia:WIKILINK. So it would be a dead end article! (Wikipedia:Dead-end pages).
Where do the numbers in parentheses come from, like "failed to convince the jury that Mapplethorpe’s photographs lacked artistic merit. (13)"? What do they mean? Has this material been copy and pasted from somewhere else?
Were the students aware of Wikipedia:COPYPASTE and Wikipedia:PARAPHRASE when working on the draft? Arthur goes shopping (talk) 07:38, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I had submitted an article in Wikipedia(Draft:Christian_Fellowship_Church_(CFC)_-_Bangalore,_India) but got this response -

This submission's references do not adequately evidence the subject's notability. Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. What you can do: Add citations to secondary reliable sources that are entirely independent of the subject.

Could you please help me on how I can do it. Thank you, Onesimus.

Hi, the blue text in that box links to help articles on those topics. Have a look at WP:IRS and WP:REFB to start off with. Rankersbo (talk) 14:13, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The review of resubmission is pending for a while.

Goodisgood (talk) 12:22, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Goodisgood: Yes, the review process is very backlogged at this point. It's been over a month, so someone should get to your article soon. --Ahecht (TALK

I am working for Midas King music and the article that was written as our official article, so there is no copyright infringement at all. You can confirm it also on our official Facebook page, it's the same article. why deleting it without adequate investigations?

We have no way of knowing the person who wrote the article is a representative of you or not. The text on your website is your copyright unless you explicitly license it otherwise. To re-use text you've used elsewhere you need to formally donate it to wikipedia (see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials), you can't just paste it because you own the copyright. I would advise against as wikipedia articles need to be neutrally worded and your facebook page will be written with promotion in mind.
Wikipedia isn't a hosting space, it's not your article it belongs to the community. That's why your copyright text can't simply be placed here. Rankersbo (talk) 20:50, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed several of the links that were cited as non-veritable. I have 2 sources that speak of the company's credibility and notability in that respective industry. What more should I add in order to have the article published? Please let me know. Thank you!

@Kcmaher: Your article has been submitted for review, so someone should evaluate it and provide feedback in a few weeks. That said, you have three references, two of which are press releases (not independent) and one of which is a directory listing (not significant coverage). --Ahecht (TALK

I am currently creating a Wiki page for my company, and want to know hot to put a badge on the page with our logo and details of the company.

Bclark1220 (talk) 19:13, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Bclark1220: This page is for questions about the "Articles for Creation" review process, questions about how to edit articles would be better suited for Wikipedia:Help desk. That said, the "badge" you are referring to is called an "infobox", and the one for companies can be found at {{Infobox company}}. Don't worry about uploading the logo now, as logos should only be uploaded after the article has been accepted in order to comply with Wikipedia's non-free content policy. Also, I want to warn you that you have to be extremely careful not to sound at all promotional if you are trying to create a page for a company that you are affiliated, and you will need to cite reliable sources that are independent of you and your company and that contain significant coverage (a directory listing at a place like crunchbase is not significant coverage). --Ahecht (TALK

not really sure what is considered as a copyright violation or what was the copyrighted information that created this violation.74.207.196.25 (talk) 21:29, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Did you write the text from scratch, or base the article on some existing text? It would be strange for an article to share a similarity with text published elsewhere on the web purely through chance.
The source which was similar to your page is here Rankersbo (talk) 22:09, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
