Description
[edit]A project encompassing all the canyon and gorge articles; quite self explanatory. There are a lot of articles, in the tens of thousands, possibly, and none of them have a common wikiproject. Please if you know, provide help on how to actually start the project if it succeeds. Shannontalk contribs sign!:) 00:56, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
User:Shannon1/WPCanyons will grow into a wikiproject page soon.

- Seems a good idea, and Shannon1 seems a good person to spearhead the effort, as they have a clear interest in canyons (and some considerable talent for writing about them) Probably would not join, though. ++Lar: t/c 15:10, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
[edit]Support - I'm in support of this project - this is a good idea, and there should be some form of group or project to help classify and organize this subject. I.M.S. (talk) 01:48, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Shannon1, does this look alright as a simple banner for the project?

- You've probably already got everything set up, but if you need any help with getting the WikiProject up and running, I'll be glad to do whatever I can! Good luck - I.M.S. (talk) 03:52, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- It's perfect, simple and suitable. The "task force" idea, however, I am a little doubtful of, because there are pretty much as much canyon articles as river articles. However, it can be something like how the Southern California wikiproject is related to the California wikiproject, kind of like halfway between a task force and a project, if you know what I mean.
- Sure. I've rewired my first post above so it's more of a "support". I hadn't noticed all of those Canyon/Gorge articles in that category until now. I.M.S. (talk) 04:30, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Hey, do you have any ideas of how to promote this project so more people will look at this page?
- How does this look?

Hi! I've seen you around on Canyon and Gorge articles... Would you consider becoming a member of WikiProject Canyon and Gorges, a WikiProject which aims to expand and improve coverage of all things related to Canyons and Gorges on Wikipedia? Please feel free to join us. | |

Well, I would do a number of things. First, post on the talk page for canyons and state that you've recently set up a proposal for a WP:Canyons and Gorges. You'd be surprised at how much "traffic" this will bring - and it will probably garner the project a few more votes. Also, consider an announcement on WP:Geography. After that, there are some more obvious ones - check the "history" section on some canyon pages and see which editors seem to be interested in the subject. Be careful before asking them to join - make sure they would definitely be interested in a WikiProject. Some Wikipedians are opposed to WPs for one reason or another. Good luck! I.M.S. - (replying to your comment on my talkpage) with only three votes, I think we should wait a little while before we start it, I think. I don't think I'd like to be caught in a debate on a wikiproject that has less than 5 members, so maybe extend the wait a while longer?
