Description
[edit]As I was looking through the proposal for a WikiProject Commonwealth Games, it struck in my mind that a WikiProject coordinating all the articles on multi-sport events would be a better idea. As you can see here and here, there have been and are currently numerous multi-sports events in existence, not to count a few I know of that aren't in those lists. Many of these articles are in a sorrowful state, with no direct coverage by any WikiProject (WikiProject Sports is too broad). The Commonwealth Games can be a task force under this WikiProject. As for WikiProject Olympics — it certainly is significant enough to stand on its own. It'll just be related to the new WikiProject. I am willing to develop the WikiProject, if its approved. - Aridd (talk) 09:02, 5 October 2010 (UTC) . I think the proposal makes a lot of sense. It may provide the necessary structure to encourage work on articles in neglected multi-sport events. I'm not sure I would contribute myself, though; there's still so much work to be done on articles on the Paralympics![reply]

Discussion
[edit]- There's a CWG taskforce under the umbrella of the WikiProject Olympics, but despite the best intentions, I don't believe there's enough editors at the WikiProject Olympics willing to take that task, so it might be a good idea to migrate this taskforce to this soon-to-be created project. Parutakupiu (talk)
- I can't see the CWG taskforce listed at WP:OLY; where is it listed? David Biddulph (talk) 12:19, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Oh, feeling so dumb now. We'd never had a CWG taskforce. Don't know why I thought there was, must have mistaken it with another taskforce. Just forget what I wrote... Parutakupiu (talk) 15:09, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Would be good to have a separate project from the Olympics on this, they have enough on their hands with six major events (SOG, WOG, SPG, WPG, SYOG, WYOG) that I don't believe they are able to adequately focus on these other events. Possible task forces would include the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Pan-American Games, All-Africa Games; or we could split taskforces by CWG, then region (such that the SEA Games nd Asian Games would both be under an Asia taskforce), then by language and religion (Francophonie Games, Maccabiah Games). Strange Passerby (talk • c • status) 23:15, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- That would be a good plan and would allow a better focus of efforts. Parutakupiu (talk) 23:53, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- CWG and Francophonie Games would possibly garner enough participation from an English audience to stand on their own as task forces. I say Francophonie, because there's a large English speaking country that participates in it, Canada. Though, I did try to get interest in starting a WikiProject Francophonie before (see Talk:Francophonie). 76.66.200.95 (talk) 02:24, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Can we discuss the taskforces that are most likely to be established when the WikiProject is set up? I intend to draft the main page for the WikiProject soon. So taskforces... Commonwealth Games, Francophonie Games, Pan-American Games, All-Africa Games, Asian Games, and the rest all grouped by region (Asia, Americas, Africa)? Or the regional taskforces should work together with the relevant continental games. There can also be a Youth games taskforce. ANGCHENRUI Talk♨ 12:01, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Either we give the Lusophony Games the same status as the Jeux de la Francophonie or we treat them both under a "cultural games" taskforce, imo. No sense to arbitrarily favour one over the other just because Canada takes part in the JdlF. Strange Passerby (talk • c • status) 12:17, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Actually, it's because there may be enough interest to sustain a taskforce that I suggest the Francophonie. It has a large English speaking country to draw contributors from. For the Lusophony Games, are there enough editors from Macau, Portugal, Brazil and Galicia? Does it have good coverage in India? (Francophonie Games does have coverage in the Canadian press). 76.66.200.95 (talk) 06:18, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I've raised this on Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics. I'm sure if the event is well-covered in India, it a taskforce of its own is deserved. ANGCHENRUI Talk♨ 07:22, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
