Hi Tim -

I know that you have exchanged some practical messages with Roger Davies and Coren about setting up SecurePoll for the English Wikipedia Arbitration Committee election. This will summarise the key points for you as you are setting up.

Franchise: All users with 150 mainspace edits as of 23:59 UTC November 1, 2009.

Candidates: Coren has provided you with the list of candidates. They are listed here if you need a direct reference or to verify the correct username.

Blocked user flag: Please include blocked users in the franchised voters, but enable the interface that prevents users from voting at the time that they are blocked.

Election Administrators: Please enable users Mr.Z-man and Happy-Melon as election administrators. There will probably be a third person in the near future; I am awaiting his confirmation that he will be willing to serve in this role. As Roger has indicated to you, because of the nature of the access for election administrators, they must be identified to the WMF and have been approved on English Wikipedia for roles that include access to private information, as well as having at least some understanding of the MediaWiki interfaces.

Voting period: Voting begins at 00:00 UTC on 1 December 2009 and will close at 23:59 UTC on 14 December 2009.

Order of voting options: The community expressed a strong preference for the voting buttons to be in Support/Neutral/Oppose order in the feedback we received following the AUSC election. Could you please implement this?

Previous vote recall: The only significant negative feedback received after the AUSC election was that when users returned to the vote page if they wished to verify or change their vote for a candidate, their votes were reset to neutral and they had to start over. This was challenging enough when there were 6 candidates; this time, there are 23 candidates, and it is quite likely that people will need to enter their votes in multiple sessions. Please do your best to have the user's vote page recall the last votes entered rather than blanking the ballot if they revisit.

Thank you very much for your work on this extension and its customisation; this is a significant change in the way in which English Wikipedia selects its arbitrators. I have included Mr.Z-man, Happy-Melon, Skomorokh (one of the election coordinators) and Roger Davies in this email, so that you will have all of their email addresses should you require them.
