Update 2008-09

If you consider updates in the summer break, please be aware that in the next season the 3rd Bundesliga starts and all leagues below will become a "lower tier".

Example: At present in the info box we write: "Oberliga Hessen (IV)". For next seasons it's "(V)".-Lemmy- (talk) 17:16, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

WikiBureau Germany

New season - new clubs

The 2007-08 season is almost over and that means a lot of new clubs will move up to the Oberligas and a lot of red links will appear in the templates again. Wiggy in the past has taken good care of removing those but others, like myself, might like to help, too. My proposol would be to make a list of football club articles required to keep the Oberliga level "blue". Also, this list could include other clubs, not currently on this level but considered important enough in the past to have a wikipedia article. Thirdly, we could also add a request section, where non-members can request a German club article. Anybody else got any ideas about this proposal? EA210269 (talk) 23:15, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Category:German reserve football teams

Regarding the establishment of the new 3rd Liga, should the four possible reserve teams competing in this league have their own article? In the south, the VfB Stuttgart II and the FC Bayern II, who look like making the race, already have their own article, and so does Eintracht Frankfurt II. But that's it in the Category:German reserve football teams. It looks like SV Werder Bremen II and Borussia Dortmund II are the lucky ones in the north and there is not a word in either article about their reserve sides. It seems, we got an information deficit there. Should we create separate articles about those sides (my preference) or add something to the first team article (an acceptable temporary compromise)?EA210269 (talk) 04:01, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

A lot of amateur teams have their own articles. I don't see a reason, why the second team of a pro club shouldn't have one, but two good ones why they should have:

a) these are fully-professional teams

b) you wouldn't want to clutter the main teams wikipedia page with information about the second team

Tagging pages in scope of the project

Hi!

Is there a way to tag sites within the scope of this project. Don't flame me, but on the main page it says so under 'to do'. On the other hand there doesn't seem to be a way other than adding appropriate sites to project germany also. For English football sites you just have to add "England=yes" to the football infobox. That doesn't work for Germany, at least not by adding Germany=yes.

So, is there a way to do just that?

• If yes, how and why is it not described clearly on the main project site?
• If not, why not? And what can I do to change that (assuming you agree it would be a good idea to have that)?

Northern German tier-six leagues

Due to the interception of the 3rd Liga, the former tier-five Verbandsligas have now become tier-six leagues. In northern Germany, with the Verbandsligas there becoming Oberligas, the relatively obscure leagues below it now are on the Verbandsliga level. Should I create articles for this leagues or not? We have articles on every league at this level except for Hamburg (2x), Schleswig-Holstein (4x) and Niedersachsen (4x). The missing leagues can be seen on this Template. I see no reason not to. It feels inconsistent to me, if we don't have these leagues, but all the others on the same level. As long as this template exists they'll probably be created at one time or another anyway. I guess I would prefer to have them created by someone who can fill the article with some content instead of getting some more useless stubs which will be forgotten the very minute they are created (no offense, just my 2¢). Have I got news for you: The North German FA is seriously considering the introduction of a one-division Oberliga starting 2011 to replace the current Verbandsligas as tier V of the German football league system. Football club (GDR)

I've created the above page, so as to better explain what is particular about the designation football club as used in the GDR. Maybe omeone could have a look at this and say a few words re: content and if it's understandable. -- Madcynic (talk) 10:46, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

I think it would be a good idea to link the club articles to this page. Also, some extra explantion may be required regarding the ties between the two Dynamo's and the Innenministerium. I think, some other clubs also got additional support, similar to the BSG's: Jena was tied to Carl-Zeiss, if I remember right. I don't know whether there was a conection between Lok and the railways and Chemie and the chemical industry. Either way, I think the article should mention it. And last, I think a sepparate article about Betriebssportgemeinschaften would be quite good, too. Other then this, its all good. EA210269 (talk) 11:31, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

In reality, most football clubs were sponsored by some company, 1. FC Magdeburg was funded by SKET, a heavy industry corporation, I believe Rostock had shipbuilding industry ties. The difference is not the model of finance, but the way they could sign players from other clubs, largely by decree.

Agree on linking the club pages, and yes we should link to the page from the club sites. I've gone ahead and done that with 1. FC Magdeburg, obviously. Madcynic (talk) 12:42, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Germany images

Yes, its a bit upseting, I have to say. I had a quick look, the following two seem suitable as a replacement. Personally, I find the clours on the leaft one a bit offensive while the right one looks ok. EA210269 (talk) 01:33, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

I think both are not very suitable for the use in the infobox, because there's too much detail on them, don't you think?

DFB Cup Women

There has been brought up discussion moving DFB Cup Women on the talk page. I do agree that it ought to reflect the name of the competition as presented in English language press, but it appears that there is little mention of the competition. The men's tournament currently resides at DFB-Pokal with redirects from various German and English variations on the name. Whatever ends up being done, it should be consistent. Wiggy! (talk) 23:43, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

National team names

The women's national team is up for FA and it was suggested that the article be called German women's national football team. Should we change all of the national teams from Germany to German? --Pinkkeith (talk) 18:25, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Pro: All the other national teams are also called Brazil national football team, England national football team, and so on. No reason why the German team name should include the country name as an adjective instead of a noun. Actually the article on the men's team is under the correct name. All-Time DDR-Oberliga Table

I just created that from the German version. Unfortunately, I'm not the expert on tables and while I like the sortability feature, I'd appreciate it if someone could take a look at the horrific layout. ;-) Also, the league affiliations are correct as of 2008-09, but will have to be watched for changing in next season. Nice work. What's so bad about the layout? I did the same for the Bundesliga and the layout is similar. Didn't find it so bad, though. I mean it is a table. It's probably not outright beautyful but you get a high information density in a rather clearly arranged way and that's what these things are for. OdinFK (talk) 14:54, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Friedhelm "Timo" Konietzka

I have recently created an article for him, it is basically a translation of the German article. However, the German article does not cite any sources. Could you help out? The book Tor! (which is referenced on the project page) identifies him as Timo. I'll check to see if it has anything else to say about him. There is a reference on a fan page here [1]. I'd note, though, that the German media in general refers to him as Timo. There's a pile of articles out there right now celebrating his 70th birthday and remembering the first ever Bundesliga goal. Ah okay. Thanks a lot! Another possible source for him might be the players encyclopedia (1890 - 1963) from the series Enzyklopädie des deutschen Ligafußballs. Bundesarchiv images at WikiCommons

There are quite a number of football related images over at WikiCommons thanks to the Bundesarchiv sharing their files.
