How to change the image like --Naveenpf (talk) 17:32, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. I'll try this. If it works, I'll note it down here. Thanks.--GDibyendu (talk) 17:53, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, use Inkscape for creating svg files. I created one, but it needs some fine-tuning. I am pasting the content of the file here. Save it as svg and try changing the numbers and opening the file directly in the browser. Otherwise, you can ask someone from WP India's cartography department to help.

We need to make shield for National Highways and State Highways. To make the creation of sheilds easy I have requested here Wikipedia:Graphic_Lab/Image_workshop#Passing_the_parameter .

There is a similar query from malayasian highway WP Wikipedia:Graphic_Lab/Image_workshop#Fixing_line. For that we need a good base shield, which have some 3D effect :). One more wat colour format we will follow for state highways --Naveenpf (talk) 07:06, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chk Template:Road marker --naveenpf (talk) 12:41, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
IN NH Yes, you can try out the new Road marker template. The template documentation explains options such as captions. Beware that the template is new and may change when people comment on it. (For example, the text does not always flow around the image properly.) The picture on the right is not an image containing the text "123"; it was generated by the wiki text IN NH. To show a different National Highway, just type in the number! It is not difficult to extend the system to other types of road in India and elsewhere (also bus routes, railway station names, ...). Which road types are needed? Highway infoboxes

[edit]
Resolved

Hello fellow roads editors! I have a proposal for your project. There has been much work in the last month to revamp infobox road. The new template design follows the accessibility guidelines at WP:COLOR, and it has been updated to better support other countries. By updating or creating the subtemplates for India at:

|style="background:#FFC7C7;color:black;vertical-align:middle;text-align:center;" class="table-no"|No, the master infobox will work for India. Currently the revamp has added, or enhanced, support for over 50 countries. The eventual goal is to have all of WP:HWY using this one template for most articles. (There is a matching companion, infobox road junction, for road junction and intersection/interchange articles.) By using infobox road and specifying |country=IND |type= insert type code here |route= insert number here, the same template can be used for all highways in India. Instructions for setting it up are at Template:Infobox road/doc/country, but we would be happy to help. As changes are needed to improve the infoboxes for highways to comply with changing Wikipedia style guidelines or policies, we can edit one infobox template for all highways. Before the consolidations, there were over 40 templates for the US and another 40–50 for the rest of the world. Currently, all of Asia has been switched over, except Iran (supported, but not switched), and the United Arab Emirates (also supported by not switched). Malaysia is being switched now, and is partially done.

There are only two changes what would need to be made to the template to fully support India. We're in the process of adding the ability to display the states a road passes through. The other change would be to add any desired color scheme to the headers in the template. The color of the headers can be switched by country and roadway type. (In the US, the bars will be switched to green with white lettering for most highways. Historic and scenic roads will get brown with white and unopened roads under construction will get orange.) Any suggestions and comments are appreciated, but I hope we can make this transition and make it smoothly. Imzadi 1979  01:06, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An update to the proposal. All the highway articles in Asia that use infoboxes are now using infobox road with the exception of India. I would like to propose again that India switch over. There would be consistency in how the infobox is formatted across all Indian highway articles. Different road types can use a different color for the headers in the infobox for a uniquely Indian look, but at the same time have an overall style that's consistent with highway articles in the rest of the world. (At this time, a few countries have not yet been switched.) The other benefit is that project members will only need to learn how to use one template instead of four. Is there any concerns with this proposal? Imzadi 1979  10:46, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just to follow up on my proposal, articles like Golden Quadrangle don't use any of the current infoboxes because of the segmented nature of the roads covered. Infobox road can handle up to 4 segments in and infobox already, a feature that was added for highways in the US, but used in Italy and other countries now as well. Imzadi 1979  22:58, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The four templates have been nominated for deletion at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2010 August 14#Indian highway infoboxes. Imzadi 1979  08:51, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The TfD was closed as a delete. The articles are being converted now. Imzadi 1979  02:31, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

State Highway Markers/Shields

[edit]

 Done Hello All,

I recently been out of station on the new national and state highways being constructed every where. I was just outside my house when i saw new State Highway Marker boards being put up for MH SH 42! So i have taken the photo of the original board

I then enhanced the original image in photoshop and created a template to use. as below

Let me know if we can use this template for all our state highway markers.

--KoolKrazy 11:56, 15 September 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Koolkrazy (talkcontribs)

I think these gives more information than just giving SH-XX .. naveenpf (talk) 09:56, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
@Naveen - do you mean this is good? or bad? --KoolKrazy (Talk To Me!) 13:25, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
IMO, We can use this for MH alone. Using it for other states which have the present shield will be WP:OR Srikanth (ping me) 11:26, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We can make this as a template for other states too, the one i showed above is just an example for Maharashtra State, i guess we can make an SVG file which will automatically populate the name. What do you think? Also what is WP:OR? --KoolKrazy (Talk To Me!) 13:25, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In case of MH it would be fine because the marker exists and for other states it will be Original Research because it doesnt exist that way. Same was pointed by User:Ganeshk when User:Naveenpf and me suggested it for waterways, he mentioned about it. Srikanth (ping me) 16:24, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
True.. so we go ahead with MH SHs .chk [ Category:Road marker templates] --naveenpf (talk) 02:09, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello All,

Please check this SVG file i made!

If all is okay then i shall create the remaining ones. Also please let me know is there any infobox to use for state highways?

--KoolKrazy (Talk To Me!) 11:46, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

isn't shield a closed figure ? i think painter forgot to give finishing touch in the original picture. And about the infobox, it is in the Lab (sandbox) need to take out from there Wikipedia:WikiProject_Indian_roads/Sandbox. No need to make all the svgs, use road marker --naveenpf (talk) 11:05, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
+1 Shield is a closed fig and symmetric vertically. KoolKrazy way to go with MH. Wish we rejuvenate WP:INR and concentrate on expanding SH articles. naveenpf , A base template of what should be present in a SH_XX_(State) article can lead to creation of few articles quickly and we can progress. Srikanth (ping me) 08:37, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
True. we must have bass template for sh article. --naveenpf (talk) 09:09, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree to naveen and srikanth, i tried writing article for MH SH 151, but i guess it still lacks the quality needed... What i suggest at the moment is lets make the INFOBOX ready and then create the blank articles. I can currently concentrate on making the maps, same as for the NH articles.

--KoolKrazy (Talk To Me!) 07:04, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have created infobox and added in MH SH 151,need suggestion --naveenpf (talk) 15:38, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have also created a page in marathi wikipedia Check Here. Please check and let me know your comments as to can we replicate the same here in english wikipedia! You can look at the marathi infobox template here. --KoolKrazy (Talk To Me!) 17:49, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Naming convention

[edit]

 Done

For state highways, look at State Highway (India)...--Rsrikanth05 (talk) 15:16, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think the best naming convention would be Tamil Nadu State Highway XX. This way we can show the state name and highway number. Have a look at my article MH SH 151 and let me know if you think thats good enough? --Koolkrazy (talk · contribs) 10:20, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
gone with State Highway XX (Tamil Nadu) for uniformity National Highway 1 (India) and National Expressway 1 (India). Both ways it is ok.Anyway we want to keep a redirect likeMH SH 151,because most people search like this.We must come into a conclusion at the earliest --Naveenpf (talk) 02:15, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Lets finalize then. The format should be State Highway XX (Tamil Nadu). I created the original articles in Maharashtra State Highway XX and added redirections from MH SH XX to that article. Should i change the redirections to new articles in format State Highway XX (Maharashtra)? I would then put deletions for the articles marked with Maharashtra State Highway XX. Let me know your thoughts! -- Koolkrazy (talk · contribs) 05:54, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok then let as finalize, main article must be State Highway XX (Tamil Nadu) and Maharashtra State Highway XX and MH SH XX must be redirected to State Highway XX (Tamil Nadu) format --Naveenpf (talk) 06:57, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Currently he's blocked for engaging in sockpuppetry and disruptive editing but he seems likely to offend again. National Highway 24 (India) - Is This Disruptive Edit?

[edit]

Hi Friends,

Check this article National Highway 24 (India). It has been redirected to Gurjar Samrat Mihir Bhoja Marg which i personally think is not correct as though an section of the highway from Sarai Kale Khan Village to Moradabad via Hapur bypass is named Gurjar Samrat Mihir Bhoja Marg and not the entire NH24.

Wikipedia user Chhora has changed the entire article of National Highway 24 (India) to redirect to the new name. Please advice if this is correct.

--KoolKrazy (Talk To Me!) 05:55, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is not inline with naming standards. My advice is to revert and have the old title. Srikanth (Logic) 07:27, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While i congratulate efforts of Abhijit Sathe in making the NH maps, I have a suggestion. How about using Openstreetmap data and generating maps, Checkout here .I think the national highway network is complete and it also has a decent coverage of State Highways as it was a bulk import donated data. Thoughts welcome Srikanth t 14:12, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

great. If you guys dont mind sharing, how do you get or draw the Indian highways map to begin with? --Like I Care 18:43, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
One suggestion:-

1) Get the Base image from without places and state information
2) Crop the Base image to get the Subimages with the help of latitude and longuitude
3) Giving the location of place as in locator maps..

and interpolate the location ...in the infobox ...

Now I dont think it is possible, given a request in Wikipedia:GL/MAP#WP:INR and Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Queries_in_Map_and_Image_Creation --Naveenpf (talk) 02:48, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We will follow the format of List of National Highways in India by highway number for the list of state highways. So Top importance with higher qualities get in than of lower importances. Why have only US highways get in when we utimately have same quality par with those one. I think its about time to have a functionality to link to osm for more detailed maps. The Indian map has been growing steadily and i think it has matured to the point where we can make use of the data in wikipedia. Already most of the national highways have been mapped and now even state highways are getting added especially in the southern states. Currently there is a very simple template to link to OSM data: 1247233 (xjah) WikiProject Indian roads/Archive 1 on OpenStreetMap The other national highway relations are here. Since the map is updated automatically as people add data, we wont need to worry about manually creating maps -- PlaneMad|YakYak 08:59, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PlaneMad, how to do it for state highways ? --naveenpf (talk) 08:06, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Its the same process, you create a relation (group) of required ways in osm. see [4] and [5] for help regarding this. as a sample i just made a relation for tamilnadu sh121 1272158 (xjah) WikiProject Indian roads/Archive 1 on OpenStreetMap

Madhya Pradesh State Highway Shields

[edit]

Hello All,

I have recently been to madhya pradesh on a trip, and i was lucky to notice the state highway shield marker for MP. So i immeditely took a photograf of the shield.

I am now working on making the SVG file, so that can be applied to MP State highways article.

Please let me know your thoughts!

good job. recreation of state symbols could be argued as copyvio, this i am worried after the election symbol issue we went through recently. --CarTick (talk) 12:40, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi CarTick and logic, I think only MP and Maharashtra has sheilds as if now . ie we are keeping green shields for other state highways. Sheilds which we are using for National Highway and National Expressways are correct one --naveenpf (talk) 12:50, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's really a good work. By using Template:Road marker it would be easier. BINOY Talk 08:28, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In Rajasthan, I have seen normal Green shield only, without "Rajasthan" name. In shield if state name is there, then I think it will be good. Lalit82in (talk) 05:28, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

@Lalit - if you still have the chance, how about clicking a photo of the shield marker and posting it here. ----KoolKrazy (Talk To Me!) 04:14, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I tried this soon after last meet. There is Query-to-map tool which works for used to work for london, but never worked for india. I then tried to render tiles by setting up a custom tile server which also failed.I must retry the setting up the server again. If you have time, try give a shot, instructions here. Planemad any other ideas? Srikanth (speak) 09:19, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like Kolossos the Query-to-map tool was built on top of XAPI, which is a service which has been having some scaling problems lately. There's a few people tackling this.
As for Mapnik rendering, it's a bit of a technical beast to get running. It's usually best to try running mapnik with generate_image.py (so just for an individual image) before attempting a tile server. How far did you get? You can always ask questions directly to the OpenStreetMap community (contact channels)

NH and Local Language

[edit]

I've noticed a lot of NH pages have a local name. In most cases it is in the State Language. In my opinion, since NH comes under NHAI/MoRTH, local names should be in Hindi. If other ones are needed, they should be added, after Hindi, NOT replacing. them. Please comment. --Regards, --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 08:12, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

All, The NHAIs decision to renumber all NH based on a scientific numbering scheme is complete and we have to update National highways of WP:INR. rename (move) is the best option. but the problem is how to avoid the conflict. --CarTick 01:02, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Concur with CarTick. Rename/move. But mention in the lead the old number as well.--Sodabottle (talk) 04:47, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is how to deal temporarily with the existing article when one article is renamed. we probsbly have to come up with a new naming system until all articles are renamed and then move them all again to the current system. --CarTick 08:30, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would go on to say that keep the old articles for a year until the transition happens in reality. We could put a infobox header on each of the pages saying its old numbering and will be removed soon. But not sure if we can create another 218 articles keeping the existing ones. Srikanth (Logic) 10:53, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why not mention the new numbering in the existing articles until the transition is complete. Articles for the new numbers will be redundant. Ganeshk (talk) 17:49, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

hmm, redirect won't work here since that creates more confusion. I think it is better to retain the existing number for time being, and move all the pages when we are sure that Govt. implemented this. Till then it is better to mention about the new number in all the articles in the first sentence itself --Shijualex (talk) 04:20, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As per my view, National highways have started being renumbered.New Numbers of National Highways. Even at my place, Former NH1A Has been renumbered to NH44.I think its time to start working on merging and formatting the articles. Do have a sugesstion that we can split NH1A into two and move one to NH1 and other to NH44. Similarly all the articles will be moved, split and merged. --Tall.kanna (talk) 22:44, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Switching to Wikidata for maps

[edit]

This is a notice that the |map= parameter in infobox road is soon becoming obsolete. The parameter will be supported by Wikidata projectwide in the near future. This has been tested and proven to work, but the parameter is only supported by Wikidata on a handful of articles, most pertaining to the United States, as of June 2.

This works by using the map property on Wikidata. To complete the example above, here is the item for CA 78 on Wikidata. Notice how in the "road map" property is File:California State Route 78.svg, which is the map that infobox road now links to, to use as the map in the infobox. If you have any questions, I'm willing to answer them. TCN7JM 06:28, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New templates

Hi all, I've created three new templates: traffic volume top, traffic volume row, and traffic volume bottom, that can be used for creating tables of traffic volume data, as seen in the new A-Class article Kwinana Freeway and relatively new GA Tonkin Highway (which were previously hardcoded). I've written the documentation and WP:TemplateData. These have been coded using parser functions, but I imagine the logic can be executed using a WP:Lua module (I haven't yet learned to code in Lua). - Evad37 (talk) 13:35, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Project banner

[edit]

I've started WikiProject Indian roads to give this project its own independent banner template. It is based on the templates used for Canada and Australia, but it does not track assessments by state at this time. That function can be added later.

I'm proposing that the project transition from tagging its articles with and . WikiProject India can continue to tag articles, but the |roads=yes function would be removed.

In the end, this project can track its own articles. The overlap between INR and HWY will be removed; AURD, CRWP, HKRD, UKRD, and USRD are all completely separate from HWY in terms of banners/assessment but INR is not. The Article Alerts system can be enabled for INR once the banners are separated. A Popular Pages list can be generated just for Indian roads.

Once this separation is made, we can make a "leader board" for HWY similar to the one for USRD, and it will list each of the projects and task forces separately. Until then, INR will have to remain a part of the Asian taskforce of HWY because the WikiProject India banner does not create assessment categories for INR.

So, shall we proceed? If there is consensus to do so, I'll get the documentation for the template finished, and we can begin to use AWB to switch the banners over. Imzadi 1979  23:46, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Any comments at all? If no one objects by May 1, I'll start the process to implement the banner. Imzadi 1979  06:48, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There isn't any objection, but I will delay for a bit. I would like to implement assessment by states and Union territory using the codes at ISO 3166-2:IN, which will take a few days to code into the banner. Once that's added, I will start transitioning the project to the banner and creating the needed assessment categories. Imzadi 1979  18:31, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The codes for the States and Union territories have been added. Once the categories are created, the banner will be deployed to articles. Imzadi 1979  23:12, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

All articles have been transferred over to use the new banner. The banner will also track article assessment by states. In transferring the articles over, I did not add the states, so that will need to be done. Also, a lot of the articles will need to be audited to update the parameters to indicate whether or not they have maps, etc. The old coding in the WP India banner will no longer work. Leaflet for Wikiproject Indian Roads at Wikimania 2014

[edit]

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live!

[edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

State Highway 70 (Uttar Pradesh)

Can somebody have a look at this article, State Highway 70 (Uttar Pradesh). It was create as being about SH-70, but all of the text refers to SH-70A. They try since weeks to insert NH233A, NH233B and various State Highways / MDRs for a small Villige with less the 10000 people. I fight hardly to repair this roads every day in OSM. I have not the experience to delete the articles in Wikipedia, maybe somebody with more experience can do this. National Highway shields

[edit]

We've created the missing graphics for India's National Highways, and they are located at commons: Category:Road signs for National Highways in India. The graphics have been created using the actual shape of the shield with the color specified by the Indian Roads Congress. The infobox has been switched to use these graphics. No longer will the infobox use the blank graphic and overlay text on top of it for National Highways or National Expressways. That does mean that if a new number is put into use that a graphic will be needed, but we track that globally for all countries as it is.

This also means that the shields are appearing in the browser section at the bottom of the infobox, as in National Highway 8 (India)(old numbering). We can also use jct to replace Road marker.

NH 1
NE 2

If we can find similar standards, we'll create templates for the State Highways, create the graphics and switch them over in the future. Imzadi 1979  01:54, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Indian highway numbers

[edit]

Conversation copied from User talk:Vin09 so we can continue it here:

Hi Vin09

Do you have a definitive list of which routes have been renumbered to which others? I understand some roads have a direct rename (which means a simple article move), while others have new numbers taken from sections of old numbers (in which case a new article is called for, and deletion of the old one). If you have a clear list of moves that need to be made, i.e. which old highways have become which new highways, and which are new ones (you'll need to write articles for those), I can assist you with that, but for the moment please hold off from moving things to the (old numbering) and (new numbering) locations because there was a consensus not to do that at Talk:National Highway 26 (India). Thanks!  — Amakuru (talk) 15:43, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm only doing it for Andhra Pradesh. Also, I do have full references. In the same discussion, at last another user has advised for that to do. Also, I've mentioned old numbering for new readers and not confusing, that's why its been mentioned in the brackets for the new page.
Also, please check edit, where User:Necrothesp did it. If you want reference please see THIS SITE. If still it is not possible, as you said please guide me to what should be done?--Vin09(talk) 16:00, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so Old 16 is New 63, Old 63 is New 67. What about Old 67? Is that anything, or shuld be archive the article to a talk page because it's not current any more?  — Amakuru (talk) 20:49, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Vin, for your informaiton I hav emade the following moves to clean up the roads listed above:
NH 16 is already at National Highway 16 (India), as you already noted, so now all articles should be at their new names, with the redundant road archived off. Let me know if this works - I think it's better not to have any of the articles at (old numbering) and (new numbering) because it becomes really confusing with incoming links and so on. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 21:23, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Amakuru:Thanks for taking your valuable time in correcting things. I'll list few more. Can we move this to Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Indian roads.--Vin09(talk) 05:34, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Talk:National Highway 67 (India)/Old numbering can be moved to National Highway 83 (India) per page 30.--Vin09(talk) 05:41, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Vin09: Are you sure about that one? Looking at the map File:National Highway 67 (India).png, it looks like the old 67 runs from Nagapattinam to Gundlupet, whereas from File:Renumbered National Highways map of India (Schematic).jpg, the new 32 seems to be a north south road starting in Chennai. The document you linked suggests the 67 has become the 719... Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 06:54, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Amakuru: Sorry, I've corrected it. Also, please cross check it.

Also, please check these as well:

@Vin09: But if a page is being redirected to it, the target page should explain why. If 200 has been renamed as 130, please say so, with a source, on the 130 page. Thanks. PamD 10:11, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Potential changes at FAC

[edit]

There is a proposal at WT:FAC#FAC nom preparedness to potentially require a Peer Review or A-Class Review before nomination. The idea is that would the change streamline the reviews at FAC to push articles through there faster by requiring more of the advance prep work to be done before an FAC was initiated. Such a change would mean revitalizing and using WP:HWY/ACR more in the future. Imzadi 1979  20:58, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata

[edit]

Hi! I'm trying to set up d:Wikidata:WikiProject Roads/India with a list of all the national highways, like I have already done for North and South America, and Europe. However, I'm looking at Category:Indian National Highways and I can't really tell what is going on with the renumbering. Could anyone provide assistance? --Rschen7754 06:09, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Rschen7754: New numbering has been adopted and we've almost cleared all pages. For example, National Highway 16 (India) is the new numbering of NH 5. Might be some pages with that problem.--Vin09(talk) 14:14, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced. It links several pages describing the roads which are unsourced substubs.Xx236 (talk) 08:47, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Parsing problem in project template

[edit]

Hi,

I just noticed that when the project template contains a state abbreviation, the parsed template on the talk page contains a superfluous "}}", see for example Talk:State Highway 83A (Tamil Nadu). Tried to figure out how to fix it, but couldn't figure it out right away, the WikiProject template system isn't what I usually work on. Thought I'd leave a message to let you know. NH208 in List of NHs new numbers

[edit]

Please have a look at entry for NH208 in List of National Highways in India by highway number. The link redirects to NH744. National Highway 208 (India) is not there under Category:Indian National Highways also. Thanks. Jazze7 (talk) 08:38, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category, Indian National Highways (old numbering)

[edit]

I need a clarification regarding articles under Category:Indian National Highways (old numbering). Are articles under this category waiting to be renamed/moved/redirected or they are being preserved as historic record of old national highway articles. Thanks Jazze7 (talk) 07:42, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Many articles are removed or redirected. I dont remember any discussions on that front. My opinion is to remove that articles. -- naveenpf (talk) 09:45, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you naveenpf (talk) for inviting me to this project and clarifying on this topic. I just wanted to know if I should put in any time in these old articles. In my humble opinion this category and related articles about old national highways are worthy of retaining as a historical record as they will assist in study and research about them by future readers due to numerous references. As for redirects, they are easily recoverable, preferably by the editors who made them. I have done so with old NH 71 although I was not aware of old developments at the time. I have gone through archives on this project and am better informed now. I will be happy to go along with whatever the community deems fit and will refrain from recovering any more old NHs. I was almost going to recover NH 47 from here yesterday. https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=National_Highway_47_(India)(old_numbering)&diff=prev&oldid=711583795 as I thought it was worth doing it. I look forward to joining hands with community to improve this project and learn more along the way. Best regards Jazze7 (talk) 17:04, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

there is huge backlog for NH pending. out 510 NHs only 234 articles are created. I think our first priority should creating existing NHs. -- naveenpf (talk) 02:30, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I fully agree with you naveenpf (talk). Is there a section where resources are listed for latest NHs. I am aware of latest one which I used in creation of NH347/NH547 and it is pretty outdated and doesn't list all. Jazze7 (talk) 08:18, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We use to update OSM NH list first [6] based on egazzette notification.
Gazzette notification:- https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:India:National_Highways_(statewise)
This list has to updated I guess List_of_National_Highways_in_India_by_highway_number,many NHs are not present here-- naveenpf (talk) 08:31, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for that superb information naveenpf (talk). I used to wonder how come OSM is the only map that is always uptodate. The number has gone upto 523. At this rate there are going to be very few SHs left. Above info will be of great help in my contributions. Thanks again. Jazze7 (talk) 10:54, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A small observation. Methodology of new national highways have some unusual side effects on regional language and foreign language articles related to NHs of India. Jazze7 (talk) 07:34, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Indian old national highways, in article Wikipedia:Notability (highways), Canada/defunct highways section may be considered. Jazze7 (talk) 12:57, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Switching issue on Article - Talk buttons of some NH articles, e.g. NH 13

[edit]

Are these issues already known? When you open or land up on National Highway 13 (India), on clicking Talk button you end up here Talk:National Highway 13 (India)(old numbering). When you click on Article button, instead of landing back on NH 13, you reach here National Highway 50 (India). Click talk again > Talk:National Highway 50 (India)(old numbering). Click Article > National Highway 16 (India). Click Talk > Talk:National Highway 16 (India). Click Article > Back to NH 16 which is normal.

Similar issues with a number of articles with varying degree of switch problems. Jazze7 (talk) 13:36, 11 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That shouldn't happen and it was probably done by manually moving pages or recreating a page without fixing the redirect. In National Highway 13 (India) for example, it seems the page was moved then two years later recreated but the talk page wasn't moved back. This should be fixed and if you cannot do this, post it via WP:RM. --Gonnym (talk) 09:05, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much Gonnym for clarifying that. I have removed the redirect from Talk:National Highway 13 (India) that was created due to page move and issue has been resolved. - Jazze7 (talk) 11:00, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Template for primary highways

[edit]

I have created a template for national highway 2 secondary routes. Suggest/edit/modify to improve so that a standardized version can be used for all other primary highways.

Jazze7 (talk) 14:14, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Good to see this --naveenpf (talk) 23:50, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you like title background color, consider standardizing it on highways related templates. - Jazze7 (talk) 10:03, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed changes to template Indian Highways Network

[edit]

I propose a few changes to Template:Indian Highways Network, which may further be refined.

Viewable at my sandbox page

Jazze7 (talk) 11:37, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I liked the highlighting of primary highways. what are other advantages ? .. it takes 5 clicks for to see full template -- naveenpf (talk) 04:31, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Naveen. Thanks for feedback. I thought that this template had become bigger than many page articles. In some similar templates, I noticed the split, which is kind of convenient if you are not interested in everything as a reader. Jazze7 (talk) 13:17, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jct formatting for state highways

[edit]

I've just made a junction list for NH1, and I'm going to start work on making more for other national highways. But unlike NH1, NH2 intersects at least one state highway I've noticed so far. I'm pretty sure I can figure out how to just use the default template, but it would be cool if we could get templates for all state highways or even a single template incorporated with the Indian jct template. Thanks! Mausoleum Man (talk) 18:22, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

SH 2 is an example.
We don't have most of the state highway shields from India. We have been talking about how to make them at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Highways/Route_markers#State_Highway_Shields_from_India. --Rschen7754 19:58, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks. I'm afraid I don't have much ability to contribute in coding or design, but I'll keep an eye on the page for any updates. What is on the page looks pretty good, perhaps with a different shade of green. In fact, I'll pipe in over there really quick as well. Thanks for the demonstration of how to use the template. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Standardised Infobox for Indian roads

[edit]

There is no standardised infobox format for Indian roads. The community should discuss and take decisions on infobox entries like:

 • Junctions: Define Major junctions/road intersections. Criteria for including road interesctions and the maximum number of entries in the list.
 • terminus_a & terminus_b:

For highways starting from a point on another highway. Should we Use the format terminus_a = , Place Or terminus_a = Place .

 • previous_route & next_route: make clarification on this. From what we can understand from wikiprojects of the countries, it is the previous and next route in the numbering system. For eg: NH 1 -> NH 301 -> NH 501 and so on.

User script to detect unreliable sources

[edit]

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

 • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from cite web, cite journal and doi.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Communication tools

[edit]

(cross-posted to all HWY subprojects)

The road projects have faced some challenges over recent weeks. While we remain separate projects, I believe we need to be able to work together during this time. Thus, I wanted to highight three recent changes to the methods of communication and collaboration that we have available to us.

 1. Template:HWY Announcements - this template lists important discussions as well as certain cleanup categories used across all the road projects/
 2. WP:HWY/AAA - this is an Article Alerts page that will be updated with every AFD, GAN, FAC, etc. in every road project. Please consider watchlisting this to stay on top of important discussions.
 3. Discord - When Wikimedia IRC on Freenode was shut down, we chose not to migrate to the Libera IRC server. We use the #wpengineering channel on Discord, a more modern chat platform. (It is possible to read the channel history so that you do not miss out on conversations when not logged in, unlike IRC. But for that reason, please consider anything you say there to be public).

Project-independent quality assessments

[edit]

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to WikiProject banner shell, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to WikiProject banner shell, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass WPBannerMeta a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. There is a requested move discussion at Talk:Narketpally–Addanki–Medarametla Road#Requested move 22 May 2023 that may be of interest to members of this WikiProject. Captain Jack Sparrow (talk) 12:44, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You are invited to join the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Content assessment#Proposal: Reclassification of Current & Future-Classes as time parameter, which is within the scope of this WikiProject. This WikiProject received this message because it currently uses "Current" and/or "Future" class(es). There is a proposal to split these two article "classes" into a new parameter "time", in order to standardise article-rating across Wikipedia (per RfC), while also allowing simultaneous usage of quality criteria and time for interest projects.
