http://www.acmilan.com/index.aspx... Ronaldo has scored his first goal of the 2007/2008 season in a 4-0 victory against Leece. For some reason his page is not editable so can someone please change his Ac Milan goals to... 15 appearances.. 8 goals

Perhaps we should include the full context of Ronaldo's remarks? He was condemning racism; according to our sources, he said "Acho que todos os negros sofrem. Eu, que sou branco, sofro com tamanha ignorância" (I believe all black people suffer [from racism]. I, as a white person, suffer from seeing such ignorance.") Of course, from a US-centered perspective, his remarks may seem odder than in Brazil, but if he had said the magical (English) words "white-passing", people would not have thought it strange (except in so far as he is not that range in the US, though he arguably is in Brazil). He is not actually on AC Milan until he signs as expected on Monday Jan 29th 2007. Therefore he is still on the Real Madrid side. can someone please change this in the write up?

The result of the move request was: Not moved. There is no evidence of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. There are several entries on the existing page Ronaldo. A simple google search of the name returns results for Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the individuals listed on the page. Claiming WP:PRIMARYTOPIC just because you "think" something is the ptopic without any evidence to support it is not a reason to request a move. Hence, I am speedy closing this RM as no evidence was provided to support the move request. nac Estar8806 (talk) 17:33, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

Before you accuse others of not reading properly, you should see that I wrote "we don't need speculation/rumors/news updates". Anyway, my point was that ongoing discussions of potential transfers don't belong in encycopedia articles. When a transfer actually happens, great, make the edit. But negotiations over a transfer that may or may not happen aren't important enough in the long run. Ytny 20:12, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

:Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer) → Ronaldo (footballer, born 1976) – Incomplete disambiguation. There are many other Brazilian footballers named Ronaldo on Wikipedia, such as Ronaldo (footballer, born October 1996), Ronaldo (footballer, born August 1996), Ronaldo (footballer, born 1991), Ronaldo (footballer, born 1980), Ronaldo (footballer, born 1990) ... :Unlikely to be changed. The article, initially just named Ronaldo, was changed to Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer) to differentiate him from the Portuguese footballer (Cristiano Ronaldo), hence why you will hear, "Ronaldo, the Brazilian one", when people are talking of this one rather than Cristiano. When people click on this page they are specifically looking for this Ronaldo (ie. the Brazilian one rather than the Portuguese). The other, much much lesser known players named Ronaldo from Brazil (four article stubs and the other not much more than that), are listed in the disambiguation page in the hatnote. We always go for most familiarity for article titles (hence why other singers (or people) named Michael Jackson are listed in the dab page, while the most famous one is just Michael Jackson). *Oppose per the fact that Ronaldo would not be appropriate, but that in terms of disambiguation for football biographies, we first go to nationality over birth, and that this Ronaldo is the most notably Brazilian one. Often referred to as Brazilian Ronaldo as well. This page name makes sense for practicality and common name purposes. Also, most importantly, I cite WP:PDAB. Paul Vaurie (talk) 22:48, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
**No we don't. For footballers, we go with year of birth over nationality almost every time. Have done for years. WP:INCDAB states that the threshold for a primary topic in a disambiguated title is very high. The fact he's not even the primary topic for a footballer called Ronaldo, even less for the name Ronaldo alone, shows that he does not meet this threshold. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:11, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
** What do you mean "no we don't"? Yes we do! Nationality is almost always a more practical disambiguator than birth year; when we can, we disambiguate by nationality. And Ronaldo per PDAB is the most notably Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer), this is a specific scenario. Keeping him at the current name is helpful for editors and viewers. Paul Vaurie (talk) 00:08, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
*Oppose. He's often referred to as the Brazilian Ronaldo, matching the article title, and given article traffic he is the topic highly likely sought by a reader over his little known compatriots who share the name. There is zero confusion with the title, altering it with a date would only add confusion. Unfortunately Cristiano Ronaldo forced the well known qualifier (Brazilian) by those too young to have seen the original Ronaldo. == June 2002 World Cup Photo ==
Sorry!

In the article, The photo titled File:Salvaronaldo.jpg says it was taken June 29/30 2002.

The timeline doesn't make sense. He doesn't have the 2002 world cup haircut in the photo. (2002 has the thick front and shaved head, in the photo its grown out and uniform, but shorter than the front haircut he had) and this photo was taken either the day prior on on the day of the world cup. Perhaps the camera date was wrong?
Someone should correct Ronaldo's goals for Real Madrid. He scored 82 goals for us in 127 games and not 69.

Urgent Edit Request - Ronaldo is not the owner of CRUZEIRO anymore
Hey guys, so the first paragraph (below) in this page have to be updated, Ronaldo sold the brazilian club CRUZEIRO, and its not the owner anymore.
Son
I do not know anything about this but I saw that his son's name is Ronald. I was curious whether it is actually Ronald or if that is just a typo and it is Ronaldo (jr.) Again, I am probably wrong but I was just curious. Que?

Why does eveyone put the flags of the club's home country next to the name? It screws up the team lining up the the appropriate stats. short story: " April 29 (Reuters) - Brazil great Ronaldo has agreed to sell his majority stake in Cruzeiro, the club where he made his senior debut, the Brazilian Serie A team announced on Monday.
Can somebody fix his stats for Real Madrid??? He scored 83 goals for them and not 69. Last time I checked, 23/31, 24/32, 21/34, 14/23 and 1/7 converts into 83/127 and not 69/98 or whatever you have there...

Ronaldo, 47, agreed with BPW Sports company to sell the 90% stake he acquired in 2021 for $70 million through his company Tara Sports Brasil.
Do you guys only count league goals? Ronaldo has scored over 100 goals for Real Madrid in all competitions. I remember his 100th goal being scored off a volley from a set piece assisted by Zidane in the 05-06 season. Here is all 100 goals: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zuHa-LMdeTg Mo altarhuni 02:23, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Mo Altarhuni

Playing for both Inter and A.C. Milan
The former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid forward helped clear the club's $195 million debt and led their return to the domestic top flight in 2022 after three seasons in Serie B."
I edited the page to reflect that Ronaldo is now one of the few people to have played for both Inter and AC Milan and to my knowledge, he's the only person to have scored for both sides in the derby - i trawled through countless others and haven't found anyone who managed to do it for both. But I guess I can't really source that so if you deem that to be inconclusive, please change that. I also can't seem to be able to link the "Milan derby" link to the actual Milan derby article which comes up if you type in "wiki milan derby" in the address bar. Several players have, so it should be changed, for example Clarence Seedorf has scored for both teams. Also, quite a lot of players have played for both teams. So that should be changed from "Ronaldo is now one of the few people to have played for both Inter and AC Milan", to something like "Ronaldo has now joined the small group of names to have played for both Milanese teams", which suggests more than just a few players.
: The sources say he agreed to sell it, but it doesn't sound like the sale has taken place yet. The header section of this article still lists Ronaldo as the owner of Cruzeiro, despite the sale of his shares to Pedro Lourenço having already been concluded at the time it was initially reported.
All, I think we need to give some serious thought (again) to making the Ronaldo page a disambiguation page. (By that I mean when you do a search for Ronaldo it goes straight to the disambiguation page rather than the 'Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima' page).
I would like to add more information that I have because, I'm friends with R9. 71.115.13.6 (talk) 01:03, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Although I would agree that he is the most famous of the Ronaldos that still doesn't mean that he is the only one which is what a Ronaldo search on Wikipedia suggests. The other Ronaldos are also very famous in their own right (Cristiano Ronaldo has had an incredible season this year and is hotly tipped to be voted European player of the year)

If you asked anyone in Europe (or indeed the rest of the world) what they thought of Ronaldo, I'm sure most of them would ask you 'Which one?'

I thought the whole point of Wikipedia was that it constantly changes to reflect the environment. But like I said, even if we agree that Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima is the most famous Ronaldo that still doesn't mean he is the only one.

I'll give you an example from Wikipedia itself. I'm sure we'd all agree that Nike Inc (the shoe and apparel manufacturer) is by far the most famous 'Nike'. However a Wikipedia search on Nike takes you straight through to the disambiguation page. I'm sure I can find many more examples if I searched for them. Come on guys, lets get this changed. ::I agree to making the Ronaldo page a disambiguation page. Cristiano Ronaldo's shirt has one name, Ronaldo 7.Page Up 21:28, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm neutral on this issue but agree that the other Ronaldo, and for that matter "the little Rondaldo" (Ronaldinho) are too famous to simply dismiss the discussion. I propose we nominate this article at AfD citing this discussion. As both sides of the argument clearly seem to believe they're in the right, presumably neither side will mind putting their case forward formally? == Wrong Date of Birth ==

Ronaldo's date of birth is wrong, it's 22 September, not 18. You can verify on the acmilan homepage. I can't edit it myself because the page is protected. Showb1zz 00:44, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

In this book, the author states the Ronaldo was actually born on the 18th, although because his family didn't have enough money to register him, they had to wait 4 days to save up the money to pay the registration fee, and to avoid a late penalty to registering Ronaldo (in Brazil, there's a fine if you don't register your new-born on time), they just said he was born on the 22nd.

: IP user above is correct. His actual date of birth is the 18th. His apparently "legal" date of birth is on the 22nd. Now we must decide which to use. I am a proponent of using the ACTUAL date of birth (the 18th) as it is a true and accurate reflection of the facts. In the biography paragraph it states why there is a discrepency, which I think is sufficient. My theory is this, Ronaldo was not born on the 22nd, no matter what his birth certificate says, he entered the world on the 18th. Batman2005 16:21, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Incorrect Info
"A year after the 1998 FIFA World Cup, he severely injured his right knee and was out of the game for several months. During his first comeback in 2000, he played only seven minutes during a league game against Lazio before injuring his knee for a second time." Infact, it was the coppa italia final (leg 1) played out on April 12th, 2000. A more precise date for the first injury is also November 1999. == Goal Count ==

According to the official Brazilian Football Federation webpage http://200.159.15.35/brasilnacopa/craques.aspx?j=223, Ronaldo has a game (goal) count of 112(75). Romario's page uses the same reference site, why the inconsistency?

This is because Ronaldo has scored 67 goals for the National team , and 6 goals for the Olympic Team.

Last international appearance
Ive had to change this many times as someone keeps editing it. Ronaldo has not played for Brazil since 2006, therefore the International years stays as ended at 2006. Whether he has announced his retirement or not is irrelevant for these articles. If/when he plays for Brazil again, then it can be changed, not before.

Mathematical Error
There is a mathematical error at this line:
"He is eleven goals away from becoming Brazil's all-time top-scorer.
Ronaldo is currently the fourth highest all-time goalscorer of the Brazil national football team, with 62 goals. He trails third place Zico, 66, second place Romario, 71, and first place Pelé, 77."
Shouldn´t it be "he is 16 goals away from becoming..." ? Or is Pelés goal count wrong? Because 62+11 = 73. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.178.220.207 (talk) 17:22, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

I've edited Ronaldo's Honours to include the FIFA Club World Cup, which Milan won in 2007. Although Ronaldo didn't play during the tournament, he was appart of the squad which took part in it. On A.C Milan's official site, it notes that Ronaldo has won the tournament also. If I'm wrong please let me know, as these details are very hard to define as conclusive. Can we agree that Ronaldo is a name used by many people, including many famous footballers. (When I hear the name Ronaldo, I think of the footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.)

The Ronaldo article should list the various Ronaldos instead of assuming that people will only be interested in one of them. I would suggest a good name for this article would be Ronaldo de Lima.

I don't think that the link at the top of the page to Ronaldo (disambiguation) (which in turn redirects to the Ronaldo (name) page) is enough. Other names shared by many famous people are all disambiguation sites, as this one should be. - Mjb1981 (talk) 23:24, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

:No the name should'nt be changed to Ronaldo de lima. First of all Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn't have become so well known and so popular so quick if their wasn't already an extremely well known player simply known as 'RONALDO'. Everybody knows Ronaldo for Ronaldo you never hear commentators in games say Ronaldo De Lima has scored! It's simply Ronaldo and has been for a very long time. IF you change Ronaldo's article to Ronaldo De Lima not many people will recognise who the player is. It should stay as Ronaldo for the original player, at least untill he retires. Personal life: racial self-identification

[edit]

Perhaps we should include the full context of Ronaldo's remarks? He was condemning racism; according to our sources, he said "Acho que todos os negros sofrem. Eu, que sou branco, sofro com tamanha ignorância" (I believe all black people suffer [from racism]. I, as a white person, suffer from seeing such ignorance.") Of course, from a US-centered perspective, his remarks may seem odder than in Brazil, but if he had said the magical (English) words "white-passing", people would not have thought it strange (except in so far as he is not that range in the US, though he arguably is in Brazil). Requested move 29 April 2023

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

(non-admin closure) Estar8806 (talk) 17:33, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer)Ronaldo (footballer, born 1976) – Incomplete disambiguation. 162 etc. (talk) 00:48, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely to be changed. Not exactly. Please see WP:PDAB. 162 etc. (talk) 14:42, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose move. This is a PDAB situation, despite technically having multiple qualifiers. O.N.R. (talk) 18:15, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, this Ronaldo is the PDAB for Brazilian footballer.--Ortizesp (talk) 20:19, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per page views analysis: this (Brazillian footballer) is credited with over 99% of all page views over the latest 20 days over 8 others.[1]. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 20:40, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose as above - clearly the most notable Brazilian footballer called Ronaldo (and also, for some of us of a certain age, the most famous footballer called Ronaldo full stop). GiantSnowman 15:16, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. The fact "Ronaldo" needs to be disambiguated with not just one word but two shows the article has no reason not to conform to the standard disambiguation. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:03, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per the fact that Ronaldo would not be appropriate, but that in terms of disambiguation for football biographies, we first go to nationality over birth, and that this Ronaldo is the most notably Brazilian one. Often referred to as Brazilian Ronaldo as well. This page name makes sense for practicality and common name purposes. Also, most importantly, I cite WP:PDAB. Paul Vaurie (talk) 22:48, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • No we don't. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:11, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • What do you mean "no we don't"? Paul Vaurie (talk) 00:08, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Messi R9 R10 CR7 Thiago LFC (talk) 13:37, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

June 2002 World Cup Photo

[edit]

In the article, The photo titled File:Salvaronaldo.jpg says it was taken June 29/30 2002.

The timeline doesn't make sense. He doesn't have the 2002 world cup haircut in the photo. (2002 has the thick front and shaved head, in the photo its grown out and uniform, but shorter than the front haircut he had) and this photo was taken either the day prior on on the day of the world cup. Perhaps the camera date was wrong? MatthewNewHouse (talk) 22:39, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Urgent Edit Request - Ronaldo is not the owner of CRUZEIRO anymore

[edit]

Hey guys, so the first paragraph (below) in this page have to be updated, Ronaldo sold the brazilian club CRUZEIRO, and its not the owner anymore.

"Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima (Brazilian Portuguese: [ʁoˈnawdu ˈlwiz nɐˈzaɾju dʒi ˈlimɐ]; born 18 September 1976), mononymously known as Ronaldo, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a striker. X He is the owner of Brasileiro Série A club Cruzeiro X and owner and president of La Liga club Real Valladolid."

see here... https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5459944/2024/04/30/ronaldo-cruzeiro-ownership-valladolid/

and here.... https://www.reuters.com/sports/soccer/brazil-great-ronaldo-selling-stake-boyhood-club-cruzeiro-2024-04-30/

short story: " April 29 (Reuters) - Brazil great Ronaldo has agreed to sell his majority stake in Cruzeiro, the club where he made his senior debut, the Brazilian Serie A team announced on Monday.

Ronaldo, 47, agreed with BPW Sports company to sell the 90% stake he acquired in 2021 for $70 million through his company Tara Sports Brasil.

No details were given on how much BPW Sports are paying for the stake.

The former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid forward helped clear the club's $195 million debt and led their return to the domestic top flight in 2022 after three seasons in Serie B."

thank you! CJ Bellic (talk) 18:48, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The sources say he agreed to sell it, but it doesn't sound like the sale has taken place yet. I've added a blurb about the proposed sale to the article. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:03, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The sale did actually happen (at the time of that report, nonetheless), to the extent where this issue has already been fixed on the Portuguese Wikipedia. 189.78.166.188 (talk) 22:55, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The header section of this article still lists Ronaldo as the owner of Cruzeiro, despite the sale of his shares to Pedro Lourenço having already been concluded at the time it was initially reported. Fittingly, the information was already corrected in the Portuguese Wikipedia. In any case, if there is still doubt, here is a source that describes how the latter confirmed the acquisition in an interview and what were his immediate actions upon taking charge: [1] 179.98.178.128 (talk) 22:25, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated the MOS:LEDE to reflect the sale. Thanks, Robby.is.on (talk) 23:35, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
