Bikini: Trikini
I have started a section on the trikini. But, I couldn't find and image to go with it. The original meaning says it should be something like this flickr image, i.e. consisting three separate parts. Can you help me find a fitting image? Aditya(talk • contribs) 02:48, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Portishead Rilway page - template
Hi Matt,
Something is wrong with Portishead Railway template, take a look at Portishead Railway, the last reference in Template:Portishead Railway is displaying at top of the railwayarticle. I can't work out what the problem is. Jezhotwells (talk) 23:28, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ah fixed it it was missing hyphens in ISBN, you learn something everyday. Jezhotwells (talk) 23:32, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Still screwed up for me, but that's probably cache issues, and I don't think it was a missing hyphen. I think that when I added the last ref I forgot to remove the previous noinclude tag. -mattbuck (Talk) 23:43, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

commons section?
Hi Mattbuck,
You posted over on the Signpost talk page about carrying updates about Commons.. I think that's a great idea and I'd be happy to put them in News & Notes (or maybe a dedicated Commons story every so often)? The only problem is ... it would need an author :) I don't follow Commons myself... would you be interested in doing such a thing? -- phoebe / (talk to me) 04:23, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Phoebe. Yeah, I meant to do it myself, then got sidetracked with various things - not had a good year so far. I'll see if I can put something together over the next week or so. -mattbuck (Talk) 20:11, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Brislington East
Hi mattbuck,
Please check the Brislington East boundary map HERE and you'll see that the image I added to the page WAS Brislington East, not West, whereas the image you've added belongs most deffinately in the west, not east!
Cheers Weirdoldhattie (talk) 15:50, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Falling Hare
Why is it that ONLY ONE image is being challenged, while IIRC three others from "Falling Hare"--at least two of which ALSO include Bugs Bunny--were all marked as public domain? You're targeting the image at the head of the Bugs Bunny article for attacks while ignoring the others; IMO that's non-NPOV.
I think you're also confusing copyrights and trademarks. It is *NOT* illegal to accurately reproduce a public-domain image (i.e., a screenshot from a Bugs Bunny cartoon that is now PD), even if it includes a trademark (i.e., the Bugs Bunny character itself). Wonder how the companies that sell DVDs of PD cartoons get the images for the cover? Simple--they copy them from the cartoons themselves. As long as there's no misrepresentation or likelihood of confusion with respect to a legitimate Warner Bros. product (a concept of trademark law--NOT copyright law), that kind of copying is perfectly legal.
Using a PD image of Bugs Bunny in an encyclopedia article about Bugs Bunny does *NOT* require permission from Warner Bros. under either copyright or trademark law. Case closed! --RBBrittain (talk) 00:40, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi. I only challenged the one image because I didn't know of any others. It's not POV, nor would it be even if I had known of the existence of the others. If I had known of the existence of the others it would be sloppy, but that's it.
- As for your comment about public domain issues and trademarks, I am fully aware of the difference between a trademark and a copyright. However, I followed the Commons guidelines on this - the cartoon is without doubt PD. The frame is without doubt PD. But the character is not PD, and thus since this particular frame is mostly of a copyrighted character it fails the de minimis test, and so is unfree. If you drew a picture of Bugs Bunny, that would be non-free because the character is not PD. Same principle. I'd welcome bringing this up in a wider forum, but I took a straw poll of commons admins before I originally nominated it for PUI, and consensus was non-free. -mattbuck (Talk) 01:11, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi Matt. Thanks for putting a map on this: I've never got the hang of doing maps myself. I wondered whether you could tweak it a little to make it clearer that Coaley was the junction station, rather than Cam and Dursley: unlike the arrangement at Stonehouse (Bristol Road), where there were, in effect, two separate but linked stations, one on the main line and the other on the Nailsworth line, Coaley was very definitely a single station, with an unusual station building at right angles to the main line and serving passengers on both the branch and the Bristol-bound trains. Thanks. Johnlp (talk) 22:28, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- Done. Is that better? I found the wording of the article unclear when I did the map, so just made a guess. -mattbuck (Talk) 23:19, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, thanks, I think that's right. Please change the wording of the article if unclear: clarity is everything! Johnlp (talk) 08:24, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

A quick look, please?
Can you, please, spare a moment to take a look at the debate around File:Monokini.jpg? As far as I can see this is the most encyclopedic image the article on Monokini has right now. I'd prefer to have just this image over the rest anytime (well, one more of image may be). Please, take a look. I don't know who else I can turn to. Aditya(talk • contribs) 13:38, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

I see you point...
This is about File:Monokini.jpg again. I was under the impression that Wikipedia does allow a few NFCCs, under very strict conditions, of course. Those conditions, probably do not necessarily involve an OTRS ticket. I may be wrong on this though. Please advise. Aditya(talk • contribs) 03:50, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- The OTRS ticket is nothing to do with it being non-free. If it's non-free, then you can't use it, as non-free images used on wikipedia must not be replaceable - there cannot be any chance of getting a free replacement - and that is clearly not the case for this image. The written permission provided sounded like {{attribution}} to me, but I'm suspicious - we have no proof that the uploader has the rights to release this, so we want an OTRS ticket so that we have a paper trail in case somneone wants to sue us. -mattbuck (Talk) 09:53, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the map Mattbuck, it's great! The only problem was the spelling of Brockweir but I have corrected that. Wye Valley Railway Mad (talk) 08:50, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

- Also Mattbuck, your always welcome to make a map for the Coleford Branch! Wye Valley Railway Mad (talk) 15:52, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

- What do you mean by that? Do you mean merge the maps or articles. If it's the articles I don't know how to merge them (You would probably have to show me how) and if it's the maps I could take some time because I've never made a map before.
- The articles. Just find any relevant info from Severn & Wye Railway, put it in Severn and Wye Railway, and change the & article to a redirect. -mattbuck (Talk) 15:38, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Wye Valley Railway Map - Tintern Abbey
That's a good question - I had to have another coffee before answering! I think just ARCH because the icon is for places of interest and although no longer an abbey it is still that. Then I went on to think, well, it has not been an abbey for the whole life of the railway but has been an interesting building for that time. And given a straight choice I find the darker version of the icon easier to see anyway. Hope this helps. Britmax (talk) 11:14, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

So you're saying the Wye isn't relevant to the Severn and what railway? Britmax (talk) 12:33, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

NLL template
There was, and still is, an irregularly but frequently occurring problem with collapsible in this template. Many things were tried , it seems to occur at overlays. Your removal of {{BS-table/WithCollapsibles}} has done nothing towards putting things right. The map still breaks up as ever, apparently independently of the showing or hiding of the embedded "optional" block. The suggestion near the top of the map often works.--SilasW (talk) 20:08, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Severn and Wye Railway
Hi Mattbuck, I wondered what you think of the Severn and Wye Railway Map? Should the Forest of Dean Central Railway be included or should there just be continue arrows. (see below)

- I'd go for using LUECKEs. -mattbuck (Talk) 19:01, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Do you mean like this?
- Not quite - make them connect up. It implies the track connects, but the exact plan is outside the scope of the map. -mattbuck (Talk) 11:33, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, and don't add maps to a page that doesn't feature on the map. -mattbuck (Talk) 11:37, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll make sure I don't do that from now on. Also, will I have to do the map like this, with a normal Junction because the are no junction LUECKEs.
- I'll make a request for someone to create some LUECKE curves. -mattbuck (Talk) 13:03, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Should the Bicslade tramroad be shown as a light railway (or Metro) or a normal railway? I could also add the Lydney Canal to the routemap because the Severn and Wye Railway built it, do you think I should?
- Canal sounds like a good idea, don't know about the tramway, I guess it makes sense. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:00, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- About the LUECKEs, should I include Howbeach Colleiry or remove it because it is on a different railway. The tramway I know about because I bought a walk guide on the Bicslade Tramroad by the Forest of Dean Local History Society.
- I'd personally remove it, but I admit I have mixed feelings - on one side I don't want people believing that it's part of the SWR, but on the other hand I like to have complete maps, as my Bristol map shows (Template:Bristol Railway Map).
- I guess in the end, it comes down to what seems sensible. I included the Gloucester to Newport line on the map because it connected at two points and wasn't a big imposition, and it wasn't too hard to work out which bit was which. The FoDCR is a bit more tricky in that regard. -mattbuck (Talk) 09:38, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- Unless you could get a LUECKE leading up to a goods depot symbol (which might be worth requesting), I think it should be removed. Canal: Done.
- LUECKE leading up to a goods depot? Why not use kBSTq (or whatever depot is)|LUECKEq ? -mattbuck (Talk) 10:11, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- What do you mean by that?
- I mean why not use the goods depot icon and a LUECKE as 2 distinct icons... -mattbuck (Talk) 11:09, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- I have redirected Template:Severn and Wye Railway to Template:Severn and Wye Railway and Canal Co. so the template fits its name. I have also added the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal but it doesn't look that good, do you think I should remove it?
- Howbeach Colliery removed, I don't think its worth working out how to fit it in. I have kept it on the other map in case you want to try and fiddle with it to get it in.
- May want to redo the Severn using canal icons, for continuity. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:51, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- Have converted the Severn. Howbeach Quarry could be added if you changed this icon (see below).

Perrygrove Raiway Map
Hi there, I have created a version of Template:Perrygrove Railway in my sandbox with footpath icons. I would like to know what you think of it and if it is worth replacing the current map with it.
WVRMAD•Talk •Guestbook 13:50, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- I can;t say I personally see the point unless the footpaths are especially important to the article. -mattbuck (Talk) 14:10, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- Even though the footpaths around the railway make up a large part of the attraction, I think the original map looks better, so I am going to leave the map as it is.

Creating Icons
Hi Mattbuck, how do you create new icons? All I want to do is fill in the gaps of icons already there, (like making symbols with closed lines rather than the ones with open lines), I guess you just use a dropper tool, copy the colour and fill the line. But how do you do the rest and what programs do you use?
Thanks, WVRMAD•Talk •Guestbook 18:58, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Use Inkscape, which is free to use. As for colours, yes, eyedropper / AlisonW's list. Creating the things to begin with.... god knows. I can;t be bothered to learn how to do things in inkscape really, I know enough to edit what's there, but that's all. -mattbuck (Talk) 00:11, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
re:archiving
Hi, yes, I just got an edit conflict with you on that one - I was just looking for the best template for an archive box. I don't suppose you know how to create one like this (i.e. not too big and distracting) do you? Thanks. Bob talk 23:49, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- Don't worry, it just needed the Template:talkheader adding. Bob talk 23:59, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
Hello Mattbuck, recently, you removed the 'The White Elephant' from the page infobox because it was uncited. The reason it is so is because I got the information from The Rise and Fall of the Severn Bridge Railway by Ron Huxely, this is already cited in the references as a bullet point so I thought I couldn't directly cite from there. Also, the 'White Elephant' was the bridge's nickname,[1] and I presumed 'native name' ment an unofficial name, am I wrong? As User:Old Moonraker said in the talk page, the 'White Elephant' doesn't appear in any of the text, I'll add it in soon. Please let me know what you think!

Galleries
Hi. Thanks for the message. I can confirm that I have done this with the Class 313. With regards to the Class 313, I have featured silverlink and FCC samples, as I am not keen on the London Overground samples, due to the fact that logos on the sides and patches where the silverlink logos used to be look in a terrible state. For your information, I have installed galleries on the following pages:
- Class 315
- Class 317
- Class 319
- Class 321
- Class 365
Finally I will be visiting Hornsey Train Maintenance Depot on Wednesday 23RD September to take photographs of the First Capital Connect refreshed Class 321.
I hope that all of the above is helpful and interesting to you.
Thanks again for the message!

Alliance
I have just thought of an idea that could help to improve your WikiProject (Nottinghamshire). I have looked at the counties in the East Midlands and Compared them to the amount of those counties with WikiProjects, they are Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. We all share a common purpose, that is to work on the articles of our county's which includes local history, geography and biographies.
Therefore to help us share methods of research and many other needs (basically 'constructive collaboration' as I call it) I am proposing that we form an alliance, NOT a Merger. I believe an alliance allows us to be independent just as before but in collaboration as well. This could really benefit our WikiProjects and I feel we might be the first in Wikipedia's history. I am a member of WikiProject Lincolnshire, I have founded WP:Latin and have already proposed the idea with relatively positive feedback still coming in and have placed a notice in WikiProject England. 95jb14 (talk) 17:55, 24 September 2009 (UTC).
- Er... this is a user talk page - what are you on about? -mattbuck (Talk) 23:53, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- Well, without being to blunt you are a member of WikiProject Nottinghamshire and seeing as I posted a message on the talk page of that WP on 10 June 2009 saying pretty much what I said above and I have had no response despite other (later) messages being left I decided to contact the members. As you can tell I am slightly annoyed with the WP, all I wanted was an answer even if it was a 'NO'. I just felt that as you are a member you might have been able to do something about it, if you really don't have a clue and don't really do much with the project then take your name off! 95jb14 (talk) 18:08, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Companion (Doctor Who). Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is David Williams (Son of Dork). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David Williams (Son of Dork) (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

British Rail Class 313
I changed the infobox photograph as it has not been changed for a while. Also it the page does look a mess when you place images showing only the front carriage of the train. I have created a gallery below and used images showing all three carriages. I would appericate it if you did not ignore me and change the settings. What is wrong with using different images for a change?
--Peter Skuce (talk) 17:08, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- First off, it's irrelevant whether images have been changed recently, it's about what's better. As for galleries, they are generally discouraged unless there's a really good reason for them - galleries should be on Wikimedia Commons. See WP:IG for more reasoning. As for the infobox image, the one you used is dreadful - it's underexposed, messy, and most of the train is in shadow. I grant you that the one I had in the infobox is not perfect, but it is a technically better picture. With the other images in the article, you complain about there only being the front of trains - that's generally because photographs look better that way, you can see it's a train, whereas it's much less of a context if you can't see the front. But having images in the text allows people to see what the trains look like in their various guises without leaving where they're reading, and also help break up the next. Huge blocks of text can be daunting, and intermediate images add colour to the page, which is a good thing. What's more, they're informative about what the adjacent text describes - you'll find this in almost every article on Wikipedia. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:42, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- How dare you call my work dreadful - I am a disabled public transport enthusiast who spends many hours correcting information on Wikipedia - you could at least acknowledge my hard work instead of being ignorant --Peter Skuce (talk) 19:03, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- OK, let's deconstruct that. You're disabled - I'm very sorry for you, but that's totally irrelevant to this discussion. If that was your photo, then that's all very well (and similarly irrelevant), but it's not a good one. As for your hard work, I am very grateful for your effort, but just because you did it doesn't mean it can't be improved - as the text below the edit box says, If you do not want your writing to be edited, used, and redistributed at will, then do not submit it here. I am not removing all your work, nor am I dismissing it, I am trying to make the article better and more informative. -mattbuck (Talk) 19:16, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Since this has descended into an edit war, I'll post a note on the talk page and bring it up at the Wikiproject talk. -mattbuck (Talk) 19:19, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

I thought it was a little improved over past incarnations. What I don't like was that it was entered by someone who did not join Wikipedia. I'm mistrustful of people who make significant additions without joining. Iss246 (talk) 23:27, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- It does seem to be a lot of stuff, and I'm not sure it's really relevant to the teacher page. Maybe something to ask about on ANI or RFC or something like that. -mattbuck (Talk) 00:42, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
