Q on reference source language

07:53:55, 14 November 2017 review of submission by FriendlyB

Dear Thereodislong,

thank you for reviewing the draft "Dr. Petry Textile Auxiliaries".

For the sources, I cited independent sources, such as - http://www.genios.de/fachzeitschriften/artikel/MTB/20080617/umweltschutz-und-nachhaltigkeit-in-/060817061.html - https://www.biooekonomie-bw.de/de/fachbeitrag/aktuell/insektenchitin-macht-textilherstellung-nachhaltiger/

In order to have more evidence, I added information from further independent sources and references: - https://www.bloomberg.com/profiles/companies/6311207Z:GR-textilchemie-dr-petry-gmbh - https://www.bluesign.com/industry/chemical-suppliers/references/textilchemie-dr-petry

Thank you in advance for re-reviewing.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your assistance with Draft:InnoCare. I have included

and noted it on your user page that I work for that company. They're not paying me to create this page, I just think it would cool to have a Wikipedia page. Let me know if there's anything else you can suggest to improve my draft. I appreciate your help!

I added more 3rd party sources that are verifiable and are independent, professional sources (not personal blogs or sites). I now have 15 citations.

Please let me know what else you think is required to have it accepted?

Dear Theroadislong

Hope you are fine and doing good.

I am requesting for a review again as the major comment for rejection/decline of this article was its Reference section or having less references. Now, the draft has been updated, and more than 20 solid references have been employed, with more historical details, and best possible bibliographic support in the light of the available literature. This single page article is now having over 25 appropriate references, and are strengthened with new data.

Your anticipation in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Sincere Regards

Dear Theroadislong

Thank you very much for your prompt response.

The objected references (facebook) has been udpated with the departmental URLS (links to the webpages). I think, these were the most up to dated and regularly updating references. Moreover, the last paragraph was deleted, because the book describing the paragraph and the mentioned material is in press (which is written by Dr. Ikram), and once the book got published, the three to four lines paragraph will be inserted again.

I do hope, that the draft will get approved now and will get online, as after coming across other such articles, this one seems to be far better than those.

Your prompt and positive anticipation in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Thanking you in anticipation

Sincere Regards

The submission's referencing was improved as advised, and I added a few more. More information on his teachings and publications were added. The page exists in 3 other Wikipedia: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Russell https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Russell https://sk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Russell

In-depth coverage

I added RPG Site. Is that a reliable source?

Hi Theroadislong! I have recently uploaded a draft of the article "Admitad" here and you have declined it. Could you kindly explain what can I do to make it right? Is it possible to work with you as my mentor on the draft? Or, maybe, you can help with writing, could you kindly tell me what is the best option? admitad is a global company, it already helps over 630,000 people worldwide. I believe, that it needs to be on Wikipedia.

Writing an autobiography is probably the most difficult thing to do on Wikipedia and is STRONGLY discouraged. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, which summarises what independent sources have published about subjects and has essentially no interest in what anybody says or wants to say about themselves, on Wikipedia we need reliable sources independent of the subject. My decline didn't mention "self promotion" ? It said "This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability. Wikipedia requires significant coverage (not just mere mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject—see the guidelines on the notability of people, the golden rule and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue." Re Roger Michell potter edit

Hi, yes, I am Roger Michell's wife. I shall not use bias in any sense at all editing the wiki page about my husband. I am I think in the best position to record accuarate information about him and his work. My first edit was to remove the name of Roger Michell the director from the page as this page is not about Roger Michell the director it is about Roger Michell the potter. When I search for Roger Michell I get the director. If I want Roger Michell the potter I have to put Roger Michell the potter therefore can you explain please the purpose of including Roger Michell the director on this page? with all due respect, Juliamichell — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliamichell (talkcontribs) 21:40, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's normal to include a link to other people of the same name but not essential. Wikipedia has no interest in what you or I know, it is only interested in what reliable sources have published about him, all content must be backed up with independent sources. All good wishes. Theroadislong (talk) 21:50, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Re Roger Michell potter edit

The second edit was linked to my book not because I am interested in advertising it but it is relevant to the fact of the Walking Ware and is the only definitive book on Walking Ware (written actually in collaboration with Roger himself) in existence and as such carries all the information that you need to know about Walking Ware and Roger's connection to it. Although this was and still is his most popularly selling work Roger must not be wholly defined by it as this would not be a true representation of him or his work or his life. Additionally, Danka Napiorkowska is an important part of the Walking Ware phenomenon but as he is not to be wholly defined by Walking Ware neither is he to be wholly defined by Danka or Lustre Pottery. As you can see I have altered the information not to disclude Danka but to qualify the origin of the designs. I had hoped to edit further concerning the origin of Lustre Pottery and hope that Wiki concern over bias will not apprehend the truth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliamichell (talkcontribs) 22:01, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There are quite a few formatting errors in the references now, I will try and sort them out later, but PLEASE note that Wikipedia is not concerned with the truth, it is only interested in reporting what people who have no connection with the subject have published about them, in reliable places. This is why when you have a conflict of interest you are encouraged not to edit the article yourself but to make suggestions on the talk page for others to implement. Gerhard Daum Music edition

Hello Theroadislong,

thanks for your proposal on the Gerhard Daum Music Edition and merging it with the Gerhard Daum site. I'd love to explain why I think that the two articles should be separate and maybe you do have advice for me, how to make them more separate. The Gerhard Daum site is on the composer, mainly focusing on his commissioned work, while the site of the Gerhard Daum Music Edition focuses on the works he has written or rewritten on his own account and that have been made public through the label and the music library, though many of these works have later been used in different media as well. So the difference being that one even though it works under his name is a label, while the other article is about the composer as an artist. Does that make sense to you? thanks again for your comments and looking forward to your reply. Kerstin Gehner (talk) 14:34, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Salt and Pepper page...

Hi... I went to Wiki page because someone was misinterpreting & quoting the info incorrectly on Facebook... I read the entire thing, saw the mention of the Museum & other club, and decided to try to put our group's website link there as well. My plan was to later go back and do some more editing of the body of the article, with added citations from the literature, as I learned how to edit (if it worked).

so why can Museum & other club be there, and not the AGSSSC? please let me know if you have received this? scott roland, GlimmerGlass Antiques, VP-AGSSSC GlimmerGlassAntiques (talk) 18:38, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article for David Eeles

The thing is, like windrush, it is quite difficult to establish notable references as you call them for this potter, I have applied to the crafts council and the crafts association archives on the matter, david eeles was a potter of note, he is mentioned in many books, I have started reference these, haven't I? He is deeply respected by potters who were more a part of the 'establishment' but because of his views was not a significant part of the establishment, let me tell you, he worked in the 17th century tradition, a potter who lived where he worked and the family were involved, this is a dying tradition, probably gone now, it needs to be recorded as such, my article is in its early stages and I have not sandboxed which I can see now is one of those mistakes that newbies make, can someone not help me please with this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliamichell (talkcontribs) 16:19, 5 June 2018 (UTC) julia michell — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliamichell (talkcontribs) 16:24, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have every sympathy for your plight, I am well aware of David Eeles, I am also a potter and have written at least twenty Wikipedia articles on fellow potters including Micheal Cardew, William Staite Murray, Colin Pearson (potter) and Walter Keeler (studio potter), take a look at them for an idea of the sort of sources required. The problem is that we only report on what reliable sources say about a subject, David Eeles's own website is a primary source so can't be used, other links you have used, are commercial links to buy books these are also no good. Wikipedia requires in depth coverage in independent sources, like newspaper articles, books and magazines. I will see what I can find. All good wishes. Theroadislong (talk) 16:30, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have added a coupe of reliable sources, please remember that every statement of fact in an article needs to be supported by a source which confirms it, other wise it is original research which is not allowed on Wikipedia. Theroadislong (talk) 16:40, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

using a book as reference

Please could you advise me on how to use a book as a reference

Also, I am just not sure if I am understanding the signature protocol, if you could check this for me please or be a bit more explicit if I got it wrong I would be grateful, I have read the advice but still don't get it sorry (juliamichell 22:21, 5 June 2018 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliamichell (talkcontribs)

David Eeles, studio potter, referencing

Yes I see entirely what you mean about referencing and thank you if you can get hold of anything yourself. The Studio was of course the magazine of the arts and crafts so this is good no?

Then the Walking Ware book as you have agreed

There are a couple of other books he is mentioned in, I have cited 2 I think

There is a souvenir booklet from the Dartington Crafts convention thingy in 1977, I have asked Ilfracombe University who hold the crafts thingy archives now if they could email me a copy

So those other sources I shall need to take out, I have re submitted it already, what can I do please so it does not get rejected again?

I have also asked Simon Eeles if he has a list of exhibtions and and if David's work is in any permanent collections, it must be?

I am so sorry for not using the sandbox and going straight into the article I do hope you will all forgive me

Many thanks for your help so far

Also, I now get the signature thing so please ignore my previous request for clarification, thank you

What Wikipedia requires is in-depth coverage not passing mentions, the other possible sources are not suitable as they are primary sources. It would stand a better chance of being accepted if it was shorter and well referenced, we just need the plain dry facts, with no original research or opinions. The usual advice is to forget everything you know about the subject, collect as many independent sources as possible and report on what they say about the subject, we are not interested in what the school has to say about itself. Theroadislong (talk) 20:48, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia requires significant coverage (not just mere mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject if there are no sources then we cannot have an article, you also need to read WP:COI. B&R Rig Edits

Hello, I'm a new contributor to Wikipedia and I wanted to ask you about edits you made to the B&R Rig artlicle. Several of the edits were to remove external links from the body of the article. FromWikipedia:External_links

Besides those kinds of links listed in § Restrictions on linking, these external-link guidelines do not apply to citations to reliable sources within the body of the article. (Emphasis in original)

Given that the external links substantiate the assertions the article is making and are reliable sources, for example that the boat model incorporates the B&R Rig, aren't the links appropriate? Thanks, Sean

The links would need to be formatted as references, though some of the content I removed links from were already sourced to a reference so they would be superfluous. Theroadislong (talk) 17:30, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion on cite material - Myles Clohessy

Hello Theroadisong,

I am Antony A Ware and I am the person that drafted and submitted the article for Myles Clohessy several times. I've taken all of the critiques and have altered the page to the things that you are stating. Many of the articles and cites that I have listed more than fully focus on Myles. There are extra articles that also note his work, but the last comment you submitted stated that cites should not merely reference the subject. Again, many of the links point to areas that focus on Myles. I'm trying desperately to get this published and I'm not understanding why I am receiving so much apprehension. Is there anyway that you can help me with understanding which articles are not working? I can easily remove those and there would still be enough reference for the article submitted. If there is anything you can do to help me in this area, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review all that I have submitted.

Disruptive editing

Hi

Thanks for the advice. I've only just seen your messages. I believe the information I have added to these pages is a plain statement of fact. It does not include a call to action (which is inherently part of any promotion or advertising). There is, on other pages, similar information about galleries which house commercial works of art, so I am not sure how this differs. I am not connected to the gallery in question, either. I'm struggling to understand how this breaches Wikipedia's guidelines, but will certainly desist if that can be satisfactorily demonstrated to me.

I appreciate your contacting me, as I have no wish to undermine Wikipedia.

SteveWilde — Preceding unsigned comment added by SteveWilde (talkcontribs) 14:29, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your only edits to Wikipedia are all connected to the Maddox Gallery, there might be a case for mentioning the gallery but only if it is supported by secondary independent sources, otherwise it just looks like spamming. Theroadislong (talk) 14:59, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Entire billion-pound advertising campaigns have been conducted without a "call to action" in them. They focus on name recognition or shaping consumers' feelings about something... which seem to be the theme of these edits. While there are no doubt other examples of these kinds of promotional "statements of fact" that haven't been noticed, that does not make these (or those) appropriate. Even in the unlikely event that a random person has taken a singular interest in adding information advantageous to a particular business to Wikipedia with no personal or professional motivation for it, those edits still need to hold up to scrutiny from other editors, and an onslaught of "some of this artist's work is for sale at ____"... does not. -Jason A.
